Patricia C. “Tricia” (Mullen) Kane, born October 31, 1939, at Choate Hospital in Woburn, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2026. Born and raised in Woburn, she was the youngest of eleven children of Bartholomew and Madeline (McCarthy) Mullen. Cherished sister of Anna Scroxton of Billerica, Jean McElhinney and Irene Konon of Woburn and the late Mary Sokoloski, Peg Mills-O’Connor, Bartholomew, John “Moon”, Thomas “Kayo”, Charlie and Grace Mullen.
Tricia was the beloved spouse of the late Kevin J. Kane of Woburn. Both Tricia and Kevin were born and raised in Woburn, growing up on the same street. Kevin was childhood best friends with one of Tricia’s brothers, and their families were closely connected long before the two eventually built a life together.
She attended St. Charles School before enrolling at Mount Auburn School of Nursing, where she earned her RN. She dedicated the majority of her career to caring for patients as a registered nurse at New England Rehabilitation Hospital, where her compassion and steady presence touched countless lives.
After retiring from New England Rehab, Tricia continued her lifelong commitment to advocacy by serving as an Ombudsman in various nursing homes throughout the Woburn area, working to protect and uphold the rights of residents. Her dedication to ensuring dignity and respect for the elderly was a natural extension of her caring spirit.
Tricia was the devoted mother of Margaret Flannery and her husband Dan, Kathleen Baker and her husband Kevin, Timothy Kane and his wife Jennifer, and her youngest son Kevin Kane Jr. and his wife Heather. She was a loving “Nana” to Kyle and his wife Rose, Kaitlin and her fiancé Nick Pothos, Christopher Flannery all of Lynnfield, Aiden, Andrew and Erin Baker all of Woburn, Timothy, Kristina, Allison and Matthew Kane all of Mansfield, Jonathan, Emily and Kevin John Kane III (“KJ”) all of Gloucester. Loving companion of the late John J. Shea of Woburn.
She found great joy in traveling with her close group of friends, spending winters in Florida with family and friends, and enjoying countless cherished days at her summer home in Gloucester. She also had a lifelong love of card and board games a joy that became especially meaningful during her five years at New Horizons, where games brought her laughter, friendship, and connection.
Her connection to the Choate community began at birth and continued throughout her life – first as a candy striper at Choate Hospital, later returning as a nurse, and ultimately spending her final years at New Horizons Choate in independent living. Her devotion to caring for others was a defining thread throughout her life.
