NANCY MARIE McFAGUE
May 24, 2026
Nancy Marie McFague, 75, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 24, 2026. Born in Medford, Massachusetts, she was the beloved daughter of the late Arthur and Mary (Dallan) McFague and was raised in Woburn, where she spent much of her life.
Nancy dedicated her entire professional career to Woburn High School as a respected and devoted English teacher. She had a passion for literature and inspired generations of students through her love of reading and learning.
She treasured the simple joys in life. Every summer, she could be found enjoying her favorite books while relaxing at Craigville Beach on Cape Cod. In retirement, she fulfilled her dream of living full time in Marstons Mills, Massachusetts, where she embraced the Cape Cod lifestyle she loved so dearly.
Reading, spending time at the beach, and being with her family and friends were Nancy’s greatest passions. She will be remembered for her kind spirit, her love of learning, and the warmth she shared with those around her.

She was the only reason I was able to receive my diploma and graduate with my class. When I was five months pregnant and unable to attend school, she came to my house every day after school and told me, “We’re going to make this happen.” Her dedication, kindness, and belief in me changed my life. I will always treasure her memory, and I am deeply saddened by her passing. She made a lasting impact on so many lives, and I will never forget everything she did for me.
One of my favorite teachers at Woburn High. She always had a smile on her face that was contagious! I’m so sad. My sincere condolences to her entire family. RIP ♥️🙏♥️
Carol I am so sorry for your loss. Nancy RIP🙏🏻😇🙏🏻😇🙏🏻😇
I had her as my teacher in high school. She was awesome. I still think of her everytime I listen to Art and Garfunkel’s song “I am a rock”
RIP Ms. McFague
Covell beach will not be the same without you. I loved watching your ladies group sit and chat and laugh everyday. My condolences to the family and friends of Nancy.
Miss McFague, as I used to call her as my teacher in school. She was the one teacher that actually made me want to pay attention and learn something. She was such an inspiration. She was so kind and caring. I’ve often thought about her all these years later now that I’m 54 years old, I still believe she was the best teacher I ever had. God bless you. I hope you rest well. God bless you and your family. You made a difference in my life and I know you made a difference in many more people lives.
As I sit here writing this I hear Nancy excitingly sharing a new event or adventure of her great-niece and great-nephew.
While we ladies sat on Covell Beach in our circle of friendship Nancy would pull out her somewhat new iPhone and show us the latest pictures of her pride and joy! She would still be complaining about having to give up her beloved flip phone while showing us pictures. Sitting in her beach chair with her cooler by her side filled with ice and bottles of water, her large gold hoop earrings that she would always wear would glisten in the sun. There would be talk of books, shopping at the Mashpee Commons where the sales people knew Nancy by name.
An avid reader, Nancy would share her thoughts on the latest books. Nancy would sometimes join me at the Hyannis Yacht Club book club.
As the seasons changed the Covell Beach Ladies activities would change. Nancy enjoyed the potluck dinners, trips to the local restaurants and music events.
The beach always called and even in the late fall or early spring you would find your friends at the beach wrapped up in blankets sitting on their beach chairs and there Nancy would be in the circle with friends.
This is how I will always remember our friend Nancy McFague.
Nancy, I didn’t get to say goodbye to you as life passed away too quickly. I will miss our own sort of sarcasm that we shared, and lots of laughter also. And your famous “you think”!
I will always remember our good times at the beach and our many escapades on the Cape. All the silly things we said and did almost all the time. Well ,my good friend I will miss you always, rest in peace finally. Like you always sang, take me home country roads
Your friend and beach buddy, Sharon
Nancy was my oldest friend, the person who had been in my life the longest. She traveled with me and my family to Florida for February vacations and to Cape Cod for the summers. We had the BEST jobs at the local supermarket. She sat with my father when he was sick, every day. She took me shopping so I always had a great outfit. I will always love her.
Nancy was a schoolmate at Rose Hawthorne with me. I remember her as very kind, funny with a great sense of humor. May she rest in God’s arms.
I taught across the hall from Nancy for several years. She was an excellent teacher as well as excellent human being. Condolences to her family. Brendan Doherty
Dear Nancy Our days at Covell beach will never be the same without you. The pass couple of days I was actually waiting for you to pull into the parking lot.
Then the dreaded realization that you you would not be gracing us with your beautiful smile and your fashionista style.
You fought the most valiant fight!!
Never a complaint of what you were enduring these past years.
Some of our best times were at Mattakeese.
I know you are sleeping with the angels 😇
Love and miss you all your beach buddies ❤️🙏
Nancy will be fondly remembered from our days together at Rose Hawthorne. Loving thoughts and prayers for Nancy and her family, may she rest in peace.
I am so saddened to learn about Nancy’s passing. We taught together at Woburn High for many years before she retired. She was not only a mentor to me, but also a wonderful friend who would give anyone the shirt off of her back. Over the past four or five years, I would often hear her distinctive voice on the beach down the Cape and I would say to my family, “That totally sounds like Nancy McFague!” I just knew it was her! I loved seeing her in her happy place chatting with her group of friends. I am so thankful that “her” beach is the one my family and I go to, and that I was able to have many conversations with her over these past years. We definitely share a love of Cape, and I will miss both hearing her voice and seeing and talking with her at Covell’s (Craigville) Beach this summer. I will think of her every day that I am there… she will be missed.
My deepest condolences to all of you.
