ALTA L. LYNCH
June 19, 1944 – February 15, 2025

ROBERT T. CUMMINGS
May 20, 1946 – March 29, 2026

Alta and Bob were lifelong residents of Winchester, sharing not only a deep love for one another, but also a lifelong devotion to their hometown and community. Both graduates of Winchester High School, they remained in Winchester throughout their lives, where they became familiar and beloved faces through their many years of work at the Winchester Star and Winchester Art & Frame.

Creativity and artistry were at the heart of who they were. Alta expressed her remarkable talent through painting, while Bob captured the beauty of everyday life through his gifted eye for photography. Together, they leave behind a legacy filled with warmth, creativity, kindness, and countless cherished memories.

Family and friends are warmly invited to join Alta’s children, Alison, Tim, and Nate, for an open house style remembrance gathering to celebrate Alta and Bob’s lives, share stories, photographs, laughter, and the memories that made them both so special to so many.

A Celebration of Life honoring Alta and Bob will be held on Saturday, May 30th from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. in the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn.

We are thankful that the Lynch family sent a notice to us having found correspondence in Bobby’s things. Our family lived next door to the Cummings from 1978-1993, on the Canterbury Rd. side. Our daily lives were so intermingled between yard work, outdoor meals in our backyard, conversations over the fence…Marjorie and Bobby were lovely neighbors – such kindly people. My parents, Patrick and Agnes, have exchanged cards with Bobby for so many years now, checking in on each other’s lives, with us all having moved to Sonoma County, CA many years ago. Sadly, my mother also passed away in March 2026, a few weeks before Bobby. Life is strange.

I have a fun newspaper clipping that Bobby published in the Winchester Star of me as a little kid eating a popsicle on a very hot day in August in our yard, done as a triptych. I am glad that his legacy can live on with all his work at the Winchester Star. It feels like a bygone era, in a very nice way. We had a very special neighborhood. All of my memories are happy ones.

  2. My heartfelt condolences. I worked with Bob at the Winchester Star during my senior year of high school, and we later became neighbors. We would often reminisce about our time at the newspaper, our dogs, and life in general.
May Alta and Bobs memory be eternal.
