Robert E. “Bob” Barchard – of Woburn, passed away peacefully, March 26th at eighty-nine years of age. Loving father of Michael R. Barchard, his wife Christine of Woburn. Born in Medford, Bob was raised and educated in Somerville. Following high school, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served his country proudly.
Bob had worked as a sheet metal mechanic for a number of years, having worked at General Dynamics.
Bob loved being with his family. He was proud of his son, daughter in law, and of course his wonderful granddaughters. When they started arriving, Bob’s name quickly changed to “Grampy”. Traditions were established early with each granddaughter, as they always had their very own special birthday with Grampy!
Thursday evenings at the Ninety-Nines, was the meeting place for Grampy, his granddaughters, son, and daughter in law. They would meet for weekly dinners where they all shared what was going on in their lives.
Bob loved car rides to visit the lighthouses in Maine. He always enjoyed bringing along his granddaughters for the adventure. He also enjoyed puzzles, especially ones with the American flag and eagles, and collecting stamps.
Bob’s son and his family were a large part of his everyday life and will miss him dearly.
