Lucy A. (Russo) McGonagle – of Woburn, died peacefully August 17th at the age of ninety-three. She was the beloved wife of the 52 years to the late William H. McGonagle.

Born and raised in Winchester, Lucy was a daughter of the late Gaspare and Vita (Palumbo) Russo.

While working in Malden, Lucy, was introduced to her future husband Bill by his mother’s cousin. Because they worked different shifts, getting together wasn’t easy, but they left notes for one another on their cars and their efforts paid off as they were happily married in July of 1958. They made their home in Woburn where they raised their children, to whom they were very devoted.

In 1976,  Lucy and her family, moved to Vermont, where they lived for ten years before returning to Woburn.  While in Vermont, Lucy worked as an EMT and later a Medical Secretary.

Lucy was a devout Catholic who always put others first.  An enthusiastic sports fan who loved watching and cheering on the Red Sox and Bruins.  She was an avid reader.  She also enjoyed traveling, spending time with good friends and dining out – more recently at Grassfields with her friend Angela.

She was a devoted and supportive wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother as well as an encouraging friend to many.  Lucy will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

  1. Will,
As you know, Lucy and her husband were good friends to my father many years ago. They helped my dad in many ways which speaks volumes about them as good people. Please accept my sympathy on your mother’s passing.
