Mary E. “Betty” (Forester) Gonsalves – of Woburn, March 1st at the age of eighty-eight. Beloved wife of the late Edward F. “Batman” Gonsalves. Devoted mother of Keith Gonsalves, his wife Lisa of San Mateo, CA, Brenda Wessling of Billerica, Bruce Gonsalves, his wife Cheryl, and Brett Gonsalves, his wife Kerri, all of Woburn. Dear sister of the late Charles “Pete” Forester. Cherished grandmother of Chris, USMC, Harrison, Matt, US Army, Tessa, Jenna, Sarah and Alli. All services are private and under the direction of the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made in Betty’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472 or to the friends of Woburn Veterans 144 School Street Woburn MA 01801.

Mary E. “Betty” (Forester) Gonsalves – a lifelong resident of Woburn, passed away peacefully, March 1st at Winchester Hospital with her family by her side. The beloved wife of the late Edward F. “Batman” Gonsalves, Betty was eighty-eight years of age.

Born and raised in Woburn, Betty was a graduate of Woburn High School.   Betty was born, one of two children to the late Charles and Mary Elizabeth (Rossley) Forester. During high school, Betty met her future husband Eddy, while he was working in Heimlich’s Greenhouses, and she, working as a babysitter for the Heimlich children. They married in 1952 and were devoted to one another for their nearly fifty-eight years of marriage until Eddy’s passing in 2010.

Betty dedicated most of her life to raising and caring for her children and family whom meant the world to her. When the children were grown, Betty began working for Woburn Pediatrics in the billing department, where she met and made many lifelong friends.

Betty was an avid reader and a die-hard Boston sports fan, especially of the Red Sox and Patriots and nearly never missing a game. She also loved the outdoors and spending time basking in the sun. 

Mary was very active past member of the Womens Auxiliary in George Campbell Post 101 American Legion.  A woman of great faith, Betty was  a longtime communicant of St. Charles Church, where she served as a Lector for many years. Betty will be deeply missed but never forgotten by the ones she loved.

 Betty is lovingly survived by her children; Keith Gonsalves, his wife Lisa of San Mateo, CA, Brenda Wessling of Billerica, Bruce Gonsalves, his wife Cheryl, and Brett Gonsalves, his wife Kerri, all of Woburn. Dear sister of the late Charles “Pete” Forester. Cherished grandmother of Chris, USMC, Harrison, Matt, US Army, Tessa, Jenna, Sarah and Alli. She was predeceased by her beloved beagle, Max.

All services are private and under the direction of the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made in Betty’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472 or to the friends of Woburn Veterans 144 School Street Woburn MA 01801.
