OBITUARY

Patrick W. Shaughnessy died on Thursday, September 21, as a result of complications from type 1 Diabetes. He was 65 years of age.

Pat was the son of the late Thomas A. and Rita M. (O’Brien) Shaughnessy of Woburn. He was born at the Choate Hospital in Woburn, where he lived for the majority of his life. He loved his hometown.

Pat worked for many years as a heavy equipment operator for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and, in later years, in the maintenance department of Woburn Public Schools.

He enjoyed leisurely road trips in his truck to his favorite places, particularly York Beach, Maine and Vermont. He was a loving and proud father and grandfather. His most cherished companions were his grandchildren, who brought him great joy.

Pat was loved dearly by his family and friends, among whom he was well known as a spirited storyteller with an infectious laugh as big as his heart. Pat was also a life member of the Woburn Lodge of Elks 908, where he could be found on any given Friday night for the fish dinner. He will be sorely missed.

In addition to his parents, Pat was predeceased by his sister Maura (Shaughnessy) Drawbaugh.

He is survived lovingly by his two sons, Patrick W. Shaughnessy Jr. of New Hampshire and Matthew D. Shaughnessy and his wife Kerry of North Carolina; his grandchildren, Patrick W. III, Courtney A. and Matthew T. Shaughnessy; his sister Catherine B. “Midge” Shaughnessy of Woburn; and his nephew Thomas E. Drawbaugh of Florida and Uncle Bob.

A Funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, Wednesday, September 27, at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to call at the Funeral Home Tuesday, 4-8 p.m. Interment in Calvary Cemetery, Winchester. Remembrances may be made in Patrick’s honor to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
