OBITUARY
Albert P. Bert Flaherty, Jr. passed away at home following a brief illness Thursday morning surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of Linda S. (Govostes) Flaherty, he was sixty-one years old.
Born and raised in Woburn, Bert was the son of the late Albert P. Flaherty, Sr. and Eileen (Delorey) Flaherty.
Bert graduated from Woburn High with the Class of 1973 and began working at Amaco Petes Gas Station in Woburn Center. Here he was affectionately known as Stang for his passion for Mustangs in his younger years. He then went on to join AW Chesterton Company where he remained for 37 years, beginning in Shipping, moving up through the years to Manufacturing, Application Engineering and ending in Research and Development where he was very well respected within his field. Bert was a self-educated man in many fields, always wanting to better himself. If you would question Bert on how to fix something, he always had an answer or if he didnt he would go find out and then he was always there to help.
Throughout the years Bert enjoyed his passions for camping, snowmobiling, NASCAR and his always immaculately clean candy apple red Goldwing motorcycle. Bert, Linda and the girls were involved with numerous charity motorcycle rides and organizations over the years with Bert and Linda traveling extensively throughout the United States and Canada. Their last very cherished motorcycle trip this past year was to Custer, South Dakota with special friends Stephen and Maryanne Barron to view the annual Buffalo Round-Up in Custer State Park, a tradition that has been taking place for over 50 years.
If you would ask anyone about Bert Flaherty they would tell you he had a heart of gold, kind demeanor, witty sense of humor and a genuine love for his family, especially his new granddaughter Kristi. He was one special, happy guy and will sincerely be missed by all.
Bert is lovingly survived by his wife, Linda S. (Govostes) Flaherty, his daughters, Catherine A. Donnelly, her husband Daniel of Billerica, Abigail R. Wells, her husband Brian of Tewksbury, his granddaughter, Kristi M. Wells, his sisters, Jean M. Starbile and her husband Paul of Wells, ME and Winterhaven, FL and Susan Flaherty of Derry, NH, and his beloved dog Bubba Gump.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to calling hours on Sunday, September 10th at the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn from 3-7 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Please at the familys request, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Berts honor to Care Dimensions Hospice, 75 Sylvan Street, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923 or online at www.caredimensions.org.
