OBITUARY:
Margaret T. Peggy (White) Tourkantonis passed away at Beth Isreal Deaconess Hospital, Thursday afternoon, July 27th amongst her beloved family. The wife of the late Charles N. Tourkantonis Sr., she was ninety years of age.
Born at St. Elizabeths Hospital in Brighton, Peggy was raised and educated in Somerville. Graduating from Somerville High School, with the Class of 1946. After high school, Peggy welcomed home a long time neighborhood friend Charles Tourkantonis. One year later they married! They spent over sixty two years devoted to each other. Sadly Charles passed away in 2010. They raised three sons of whom they were so proud.
A stay at home mother, Peggy tended to her family’s needs through out the years. Lake Ossipee in New Hampshire was a place that provided an awful lot of family fun over years. Summer, fall and spring,it was beautiful all the time. Peggy and Charles would spend their winters in Florida after the children had grown, and had established a wonderful network of friends.
Playing cards was also an all time favorite of Peggys over the years. Win, lose or draw, Peggy was always back to the table for the next game!!
As a child Peggy was afflicted with polio. She journeyed through life as a very strong, and determined woman. Sometimes needing crutches to help her get around, she would use them, but not unless it was absolutely necessary; not until later years, she began to use a wheelchair.
Throughout her life time Peggy was devoted to her family, and her wonderful grandchildren. Peggy had great faith in God and those who surrounded her throughout her life. Generosity, feistiness and independence are certainly three wonderful words that will always be a reminder of Peggy.
Peggy was sadly predeceased by her dear husband Charles in 2010.
She is lovingly survived by her three sons, Robert C. Tourkantonis, his wife Ionna of Somerville, Arthur C. Tourkantonis, his wife Nancy of Woburn, Charles N.
