OBITUARY:
James K. Jimmy Queen, passed away surrounded by his devoted family at his home in Woburn on Sunday, January 1st. The beloved husband of the late Theresa M. (Nixon) Queen, who just passed away earlier this years, was 89 years of age.
Born and raised in the South End of Woburn, Jimmy was the youngest of nine children of the late Thomas H. and Bridget E. (Cady) Queen.
Growing up, James attended Woburn High School and soon after went to work at the Grief Brothers Containers a barrel company located in Winchester. It was working there that he met Theresa Nixon who had lived in the neighborhood, and later became his wife. They journeyed over sixty seven years together and had six very devoted children.
Jimmy later began working in the leather industry starting at Beggs and Cobb Tannery. After working there, then moved on to Woburn Hide and Leather in N. Woburn until they were closing anf going to Maine. They wanted very much for Jimmy to go with him but with a wife and six children in tow, it just could not be done. From there he went on to Riley Leather and Tannery . Mr Riley, the owner knew what a competent and experienced leather worker Jimmy was and it was at Mr. Rileys insistence that he come to work for him. He remained there for quite a few years, and later having retired from the Winchester School Department in the early eighties.
Having raised six children together Jimmy always worked two jobs to provide for the family. After living in Winchester for 11 years, the Queens then moved back to North Woburn in 1966 where they have remained over the years.
Jimmy was a gentle man of simple plesures. He thoroughly enjoyed being with his family and when he could, he often took enjoyments in bringing Theresa to the beach in Scituate to visit family and friends. Since he was 16 years of age, he has remained an active member and has the distinction of being the longest member of the Towanda Club, a local Mens organization that was established in Woburn in the late 1894. His passion and reputation for being an excellent pool player was well known and in his prime, Jimmy won many of the Saturday championships that were held over the years. He was also an avid bowler and enjoyed his days when he could play. In addition, he had a passion for fishing. be it salt water or fresh water fishing, as long as there were fish he was their for the catching! Jimmy had just gone down to Florida with his family , to be with family for Thanksgiving. They all had a truly wonderful time together and his fishing experiences were the best! A devoted father and provider for his family, Jimmy will always be remembered for his wonderful love of family and a his very comedic and flirtatious spirit, which was always brought about laughter and great conversation.
Sadly, in addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his loving wife Theresa, just in April of this year, his brother and sisters Evelyn (Eleanor), Marilyn (Mal), Bridget, Thomas, Edward, Frank, William and Robert Queen.
James is lovingly survived by his children John Queen of Woburn, George Queen of FL, Deborah Adamitz of Woburn, Janice Morse, her husband Wayne of FL, Warren Queen, his wife Liz of FL, Mark Queen, his wife Sheryl of Woburn. Loving “Grampy” of thirteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews. My dear Uncle Jimmy, you were certainly one of a kind! You always put a smile on my face and made me laugh with your jokes (corny or not!) and I will miss you! To my cousins – my condolences. It’s not easy losing a parent, and your dad was a great guy.
