OBITUARY:

Salvatore J. “Sal” Balestrieri Jr. passed away at the Lahey Clinic after being stricken at his home on Friday, April 22nd. The beloved husband of Grace M. (Farrell) Balestrieri, Sal was seventy six years of age.

Born in Woburn, Sal was one of three children born to the late Salvatore J. and Lillian A. M. (Connors) Balestrieri. The “Highland” section of the city was where Sal grew up and remained all his life.

While making his daily stop in a coffee shop in the South End of the city, Sal had met a lovely young lady Grace Farrell. Well his visits became more frequent, they began dating and soon became husband and wife! They journeyed over the next fifty three years together, bringing into the world five wonderful children to whom they have been devoted to.

Sal began his professional career in security when he started at Rodé in the South End of Woburn. At that time Sal had gone into the State House were he received the State Seal of Security. From there he headed up the Security operations at Burns International, Stride Rite Shoe Co., in Boston where his reputation preceeded him for his outstanding leadership and organizational abilities. Throughout the last decade or so Sal was also involved in sales over the years.

Spending time with his family when he was not working was top priority! When the grandchildren began arriving “Papa” couldn’t be prouder. He shared with them his love of old music, movies, black and white movies, Turner Classics and really anything else that he may have felt was an “oldie but goodie!” Sal also used acrylics to canvas. He painted many religious events, churches, animals and landscape, often giving them as gifts to family and friends.

Holidays were close to Sal’s heart. He loved sitting with his children when they were young and later the grandchildren, carving pumpkins, making Valentines or Christmas ornaments, and getting the pilgrims ready for Thanksgiving. Very special times all throughout the years.

Sal and Grace enjoyed taking trips to Maine, Cape Cod with their family. Actually for their fiftieth anniversary the entire family had spent several days together on the coast of Maine, right by the ocean. Cooking in, going out, playing cards, family games and just the comfort of being all together, filled all their hearts with the love and gratitude of family. Sal also loved the companionship and joy of his dog Gretal. Sadly in addition to his parents Sal was predeceased by his son Joseph Balestrieri.

Sal is lovingly survived by his wife of fifty three years Grace, his devoted children Susan E. Balestrieri Beaudry and husband Mark of Billerica, Adam R. Balestrieri of TX, Drew J. Balestrieri and wife Katherine of Lynnfield, Salvatore J. Balerstrieri 3rd,of Woburn. Devoted brother of Lillian Craven and her late husband Michael and Karen M. Whitcomb and husband Arnold all of Woburn. Dear and devoted “Papa” of Jordan, Christofer and Ilisabeth Beaudry, Drew Ryan Balestrieri and Brayden J. Balestrieri. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. A Funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn on Wednesday, April 27th, at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn at 10.
