OBITUARY:
Mary S. (Griffin) Ciccarello passed away amongst her beloved family at the Mass General Hospital, Friday, March 21st after a brief illness. The loving wife of Charles F. “Chickie” Ciccarello, she was sixty years of age.
Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary (Stanley) Griffin. Raised and educated in Woburn, she was a graduate of Woburn High School with the Class of 1971. While in High School she met “Chickie” Ciccarello, with whom she fell in love. They continued dating after high school and in 1975 they married. Pretty much all their married lives they lived here in Woburn, making North Woburn their home. She began working as a Nurses’ Aide at the Choate Hospital, but as the children arrived she stopped working and devoted herself to them.
They brought four wonderful children into the world to whom she was devoted. All of their activities, both social and academic, she followed closely, always there to celebrate their accomplishments and achievements. The Ciccarello family loved to travel to Lake Winnisquam each year for their summer vacations, where many happy days were had and memories fostered. When the children began to marry and have children of their own, “Grammie” couldn’t have been happier. In the back yard, the house, or at the grandchildren’s homes, she always availed herself for “fun times with Grammie.”
Mary returned to work after all the children were in school. She had worked for a Temp Agency for a while and later secured herself a position in the Woburn Public Schools as an Aide in the Alternative Education Program at the High School, a position which she truly loved.
Mary’s house was always the “hub” for activity. Family and friends were always coming by and the celebrations for each and every holiday were held in their home. Over the last decade, she and “Chickie” have enjoyed taking winter vacations in Ft. Lauderdale.
Mary was a very faith filled woman. For a long time she was an active member of St. Charles Parish, where she had run the Christmas bazaar for several years, and later at St. Anthony Church. Mary was always helping out wherever she was needed, doing whatever needed to get done, be it in the church, rectory, or on committees.
A woman of great faith and devotion to her God, she also shared that same love with her family. A woman who was just so full of unconditional love, she shared it all with those who meant the most to her, her beloved family.
In addition to her parents, Mary was sadly predeceased by her brother, James G. Griffin.
She is lovingly survived by her husband of nearly forty years, Charles; her children, Amanda M. Walker and her husband William of Leominster, Charles G. Ciccarello and his wife Megan of CT, Hillary A. Ciccarello of NH, and Serena-Rose Ciccarello of Beverly; and her grandchildren, Eric, Evan, Nathan, Frank, and Grace.
Funeral from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn on Wednesday, March 26th at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Anthony Church, 851 Main Street, Woburn at 10. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
