OBITUARY:

Mary J. (Hubbard) Christie passed away Sunday morning March 16th at the Lexington Health Care Center. The beloved wife of the late Otis L. Christie, she was ninety-two years of age.

Born in Wakefield, she was one of four children born to the late George and Mary Hubbard. Mr. Hubbard passed away when the children were all young and Mrs. Hubbard dedicated herself to raising four young children during the prohibition and Great Depression years. The children attended school there in Wakefield and Mary graduated from Wakefield with the Class of 1939.

Following high school, she married her sweetheart Otis, to whom she was devoted for over forty years. In 1947, they moved to Woburn where they made their home, right next door to her sister! They had always shared a very special bond and to be next door to each other was just a wonderful gift for both.

Together Mr. and Mrs. Christie brought three children into the world, two daughters and a son, of whom they were always so very proud. Vacations with the children were always north to Hampton Beach, where all the family would join together for that summertime fun and Mary’s favorite treat, fried clams. When they weren’t vacationing at the beach, the Christies and friends travelled to Las Vegas, and other favorite destination spots.

As their children grew and began to have children of their own, “Nan” was thrilled. “Nan” would be so excited at Christmastime that she often stayed over her daughter’s home so as not to miss the excitement of that very special moment of the children’s faces after Santa’s stop over. Her very favorite time was spent with her family, especially when having one of her frequent cookouts in the backyard.

An easygoing woman, Mary loved to spend her quiet time knitting, turning out an endless supply of sweaters, hats, blankets, dishcloths, afghans, and more. Spending time with her daughter was always a joy. Whether they were out for lunch, shopping or doing more shopping, time spent with Cheryl was cherished.

“Nan” always cheered on her favorite hometown team, the Red Sox. Never did she miss a game and always had her favorite cat “Nakisha” by her side.

A truly good and loving person, Mary touched many lives and those whom she shared so much with are forever grateful and proud of sharing it with her.

Mrs. Christie was predeceased by her beloved husband, Otis L. Christie, and her siblings, Earl Hubbard, Carl Hubbard, and her dear sister Norma Buttaro.

Mary is lovingly survived by her children, Janice Sharkey and her husband Kenneth of NY, Gary Christie and his wife Caryn of NH, and Cheryl Kerns and her husband William of Woburn, and by her ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend her Funeral Mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn on Wednesday, March 19th at 9 a.m. Interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. Remembrances may be made in Mary’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Arrangements are under the direction of the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn.
