OBITUARY:

Deborah J. “Debbie” (Murphy) Duffy passed away suddenly at her home, Saturday, March 8th. The beloved daughter of Margaret C. (McEchern) Murphy of Woburn and the late Francis M. Murphy, she was sixty-four years of age.

Born in Woburn, she was raised and educated here, graduating from Woburn High School with the Class of 1967. Continuing her education, she went on to further her studies in banking.

Upon completion of her studies she secured a position right here at home with the newly established Woburn Bank and Trust Co. (Northern Bank and Trust Co.). Debbie began as a teller in April of 1969 and over the last forty-five years had risen to Vice President of Deposit Operations. A very dedicated and hard worker, Debbie had earned the respect and admiration of not only the colleagues with whom she has shared these years, but also a great number of customers frequenting the bank.

Over twenty some odd years ago, Debbie was introduced to a gentleman, Paul Cain. A spark flew, a relationship began, and for the last twenty years they have been engaged. They have enjoyed each other’s company taking in plays, dinners, trips, cruises, vacations to Cape Cod, and a very special relationship with each other’s families. Being “Auntie” to her nieces and nephews meant the world to her. Debbie had also become “Nana” to Paul’s grandchildren, which truly meant a great deal to her. Holidays, birthdays, or any other celebration for them, Debbie wouldn’t miss it.

A very quiet, unassuming woman, she truly gave of herself in everything she did. She worked hard and always managed to arrange for some fun in her life. Each year she and her two dear friends would set out to Aruba for some fun in the sun and just recently they had spent a weekend in Boston and had a ball. Debbie was always ready and waiting for her next adventure. She loved to listen to music. In rather eclectic taste, she enjoyed the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s in particular and everything from folk to the symphony.

Throughout Debbie’s life she lived, loved, and laughed. All who had the pleasure of knowing Debbie realize just how important that was to her and how successful she was at it.

Debbie was predeceased by her father, Francis M. Murphy, and her brother, David F. Murphy.

She is lovingly survived by her mother, Margaret C. (McEchern) Murphy; her fiancé, Paul T. Cain of Everett; her siblings, Paul R. Murphy and his wife Sue of WA, James A. “Jim” Murphy and his wife Edie of Rockland, Lesley A. Murphy of Lowell, and Andrew J. “Drew” Murphy and his wife Kathy Muse Murphy of Woburn; her nieces and nephews, Christopher, Matthew, Joanna, Kevin, Colin, and Katelyn Murphy, and Michael Muse; and her fiancé’s family, Shawn Cain and his wife Michelle of Chelmsford and their children Nicholas and Sara, and Brian Cain and his wife Marci of Sudbury and their children Jackson and Madison, as well as her two very best friends.

A Funeral Service will be held in the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn on Saturday, March 15th at 11 a.m. Interment is private. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Funeral Home on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Remembrances may be made in Debbie’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701 or Pan Mass Challenge, 77 4th Ave, Needham, MA 02494.
