OBITUARY:
Margaret T. “Therese” (McCauley) Dever passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 7th. The beloved wife of William P. Dever, she was eighty-eight years of age.
Born at the Choate Hospital in 1926, the daughter of John F. McCauley and Margaret McGowan was a life long resident of Woburn’s South End. She was educated by the Sisters of Notre Dame at Saint Charles School and graduated from St. Charles High School in 1943.
She married in 1949, on “a sunny day after a week of rain” as remembered by her surviving husband of almost 65 years, Bill Dever. She settled in the family home and raised four children, Joanne, Bill, Barb and Charlotte. She was affectionately called “Tess” or Nana by her six grandchildren, Matt, Maggie, Lisa, Katie, Erin and Ernie.
Therese worked at the Woburn Public Library for many years in the children’s room. Children’s literature and reading were a very important part of her life. She also had a love for gardening and enjoyed many summer afternoons with family in her garden. Tess had a love for Horn Pond, walking on the conservation trail with her husband, Bill, and a series of Boxers – Vinnie, Tilly & Molly. She enjoyed travel, the beach and was a real “movie buff”.
After a long period of illness she died peacefully at home surrounded by her family. She leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, the values of her strong faith, and a devoted family. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Therese is lovingly survived by her husband, William P. Dever; her children, Joanne M. Dever of Hudson, William G. Dever and his companion Paula Hennelly, Barbara E. Dever and her companion David D. Demonico, all of Woburn, and Charlotte A. Jones and her husband Stephen of Maynard; and her grandchildren, Matthew, Lisa, Margaret, Katherine, Erin, and Ernie.
Funeral from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn on Wednesday, March 12th at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn at 10. Calling hours on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment in Calvary Cemetery, Woburn. For me, Therese is a blessing! Our friendship brightened my world from her thoughtful greeting cards and notes to lunch when I was “home” in Woburn.
I am grateful to have shared in her bright light and will carry her in my heart always.
With love and many prayers,
