OBITUARY:

Edward A. Donovan, Jr., 89, a resident of Woburn for over sixty years, passed away peacefully at his home late Friday, October 14th, following an illness of several months. He was the beloved husband of Mary M. (Ford) Donovan for the past sixty-three years.

Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Edward A. and Clara (Krueger) Donovan. He graduated from Boston English High School in 1939 and continued his education at Boston College. His course of study was interrupted by his military service, but he went on to earn a degree in Business Administration from Boston College. He was a proud veteran of the US Navy, having served in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre of Operations during World War II. He was a lifetime member of the George Campbell Post 101 American Legion.

Mr. Donovan worked as an accountant throughout his career, retiring from Marshall’s Department Stores in Woburn when he was seventy. Previously he was associated with the First National Stores in their Somerville offices.

A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he most treasured the time spent with his family. He had a keen interest in people and loved to strike up a conversation with whomever he met. He loved the simple things in life – conversation, family celebrations, reading and watching sports. He was an avid sports fan, with a lifelong passion for the Boston Braves and Red Sox in particular. As a young man he loved walking to Fenway Park with his friend Mac and attending games for the twenty-five cent admission price. He followed local, college, and professional sports and kept up with all the Boston College teams.

Surviving along with his beloved wife Mary are two daughters, Denise P. Masullo and her husband Francis of Westford and Jeanne M. Donovan and her dear friend William Smith of Woburn, a sister, Eileen C. Gately of Hingham, and two grandsons, Jonathan and Timothy Masullo.

A funeral service will be held in the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Tuesday evening, October 18th, at 7:30 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 7:30 p.m.

A private burial service will be held for the immediate family on Wednesday.

Donations may be made in Ed’s memory to the charity of one’s choice.
