OBITUARY:
Donald L. Brannelly, a longtime Woburn resident, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 14th, at Mass. General Hospital, after having been stricken less than a week ago. Mr. Brannelly was a Vice President of Danversbank, and had been looking forward to retiring later this month. He was the beloved husband of Claire V. (McCauley) Brannelly for the past twenty-one years.
Born in Waltham sixty-five years ago, he was the son of the late Martin and Anna (Kimball) Brannelly. He attended schools and, upon graduating from Waltham High School, entered the U.S. Army, serving in Germany during the Vietnam War. After completion of his military service, Mr. Brannelly continued his education at Bentley College, earning a degree in accounting.
Most of his career centered on the banking industry. For the past eight years he had been associated with Danversbank, presently holding the position of Vice President and due to retire next week. He truly loved his job and enjoyed working with his co-workers as well as his customers. Previously he had been affiliated with Riverworks Credit Union and Central Bank.
A resident of Woburn since 1972, Mr. Brannelly was very involved with Woburn Youth Hockey. He not only coached, but also served on the Board of Directors and as Treasurer of the organization. It was through the Youth Hockey program that he met his wife Claire, who was also volunteering. He was also involved in the Woburn Little League program for a number of years.
A devoted husband and father, Don most enjoyed spending time with his family. In his leisure time he enjoyed movies and traveling. He was an advocate of foster care and over the years sponsored a number of children overseas.
Surviving, along with his beloved wife Claire, are four children: Donald M. Brannelly and his wife Karen of Amesbury, Sandra Brannelly, Sean Conway and his wife Kelly of Salem, New Hampshire, and Jennifer Conway and her partner and best friend, Daniel Huckins, also of Salem, New Hampshire. He was also the dear brother of Ray Brannelly and his wife Mary of Sarasota, Florida, and loving grandfather of Katelyn and Owen Brannelly and John and Lily Conway.
A memorial service will be held in the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Wednesday, October 19th at 11:30 a.m. Burial of his ashes will follow in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
Calling hours are Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.
Donations may be made in his memory to the Woburn Council of Social Concern, c/o Food Pantry, 2 Merrimac Street, Woburn, MA 01801.

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the whole Brannelly family. As one of the many people touched by Don at Danversbank, I feel truly blessed to have known him. He was a true gentleman in all sense of the word. If there was any volunteer effort or community drive the bank was involved with, Don was first in line. He was one of a kind. He truly will be missed my many.
Claire and family. I’m so sorry for your loss.

Brannelly Family
Don and I were very close friends through Waltham High School and for a time in our early twenties. He was one of the good guys and always there to help a friend. Time and location have a way of distancing even old friends but I will consider myself blessed to have spent a part of my life in his friendship.
My heartfelt condolences to all who loved him and my prayers are with Don and all of you.

I worked with Don at Danversbank, but I honestly never thought of him as colleage, he was my friend. He was kind and giving and yes a true gentleman. I was blest to have him in my life.
Please accept my deepest sympathy this world has lost a good man but heaven has gained a gem.
Sincerely, Shirley Duggan
Don was one of the kindest and gentlest men I have ever had the pleasure to meet. He was a true mentor, colleague, and friend. Don always supported my children in their fundraisers, as well as my daughter in her church ministries. My heart breaks for the entire family. I only hope that dear memories will see you through this difficult time.
To the Brannelly Family. Please accept my deepest sympathy for your profound loss. I had the pleasure of working with Don @ Danversbank and he truly exemplified the word “gentleman”. I was so saddened to hear the news of Don’s passing, I was just speaking with him recently about our next career paths – which path to stroll down. I worked with Don at a local bank and was happy to have been associated with him. My prayers go out to the family during this trying time.
