OBITUARY:

Rose E. Orsillo of Saugus, a native of Stoneham, passed away peacefully at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford Tuesday evening, October 4th, with her family at her side. She was eighty-five years of age.

Born and raised in Stoneham, Rose was one of ten children of the late Dontangelo and Angelina (Nutile) Orsillo. She graduated from Stoneham High School and, after her mother’s tragic death at an early age, took care of her younger siblings until they were grown. Once out on her own, Rose went to work for the telephone company, a job she truly loved, starting as an operator and retiring many years later as a supervisor in the Revere office. She had a wonderful career there and made many lifelong friends.

Rose’s family and her faith were of greatest importance to her. Her home was filled with family photos and religious images, and she kept a calendar for each family member, noting birthdays, anniversaries, and special events so that she would be sure to commemmorate the occasion with a card and phone call. “Auntie Rose” was a favorite among her nieces and nephews, and she made each of them feel special.

She was a devout Catholic and a longtime parishioner of Blessed Sacrament and St. Margaret’s of Saugus. Her funeral mass will be celebrated by her dear friend, Father Mike Kearney of Blessed Sacrament, at St Charles Church in Woburn.

Along with her parents, Rose was preceded in death by five brothers: Donald, Francis, Joseph, Robert, and Lewis Orsillo and a sister, Florence Moriello.

Surviving are two brothers, Lawrence T. Orsillo of Winchester and Vincent Orsillo of Stoneham, and a sister, Jennie Strogilis of Stoneham. She also leaves many beloved nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews and their families.

The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Saturday, October 8th at 9:15 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn, at 10. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Woburn.

Calling hours at the funeral home are on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.
