OBITUARY:

Barbara M. (Berry) Johnson, a longtime resident of Woburn, passed away Sunday evening, March 13th with her son at her side. Born in Somerville, she was raised in Melrose and was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School, Class of 1938. Following High School, Mrs. Johnson began working at the Millen Mills in Malden. She met a gentleman named Edward Johnson, who she later married and was deeply devoted to for sixty-seven years.

In 1955, the family moved to East Woburn, where they have made their home for the last fifty-six years. They brought two sons into the world, of whom they were most proud. They began family trips to Maine when the children were young and that was a tradition they continued throughout their lifetime. Visiting the different areas of Maine, Bar Harbor, Booth Bay, Wells, Ogunquit and all different parts of the seacoast. While travelling “down east” she developed a love for lighthouses.

Every Saturday night for as long as she could remember, she and Ed would have a night for themselves. On these evenings they would enjoy a fine dining experience often followed up with dancing or a movie.

Over the years, Mrs. Johnson took great pride in her flower gardens in the backyard. She prepared for the spring and summer planting annuals and perennials so as to enjoy all the beautiful colors.

Mrs. Johnson was a very quiet, compassionate and caring woman. St. Joseph’s Church was where she truly enjoyed not only attending Mass but also helping out in any way she could. Her devotion to her family, and to her church are were the focus of her energies and what Mrs. Johnson will long be remembered for.

Mrs. Johnson was predeceased by her husband, Edward G. Johnson and her son, Lee F. Johnson.

She is lovingly survived by her son, Roy E. Johnson and his wife Elaine of Malden. A Funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn on Thursday, March 17th, at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Joseph’s Church, 100 Washington Street, Woburn at 10. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. Interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
