CARMEN R. SANTIAGO  of Woburn, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, July 8th at the age of seventy-two.

Carmen was born in Arroyo, Puerto Rico, a daughter of the late Luis Santiago and Zoila (Fonseca) Santiago. She grew up in a large family with many siblings and from humble beginnings.  There was always love and support for her. She was raised in a family of farming where they helped their father on the farm, walked to get water, and played in the fields as children.

Carmen moved to the US in 1968 and then in 1993 moved back to Puerto Rico until she returned to Woburn in 2002. She always lived with her parents and extended family members and when her mother passed away in 2012 her sister Carmen became her caregiver.

She loved spending quality time with her family and had many nieces and nephews who treated her like a little sister. She enjoyed going to family parties and spent time with them during the holidays. She also liked listening to music and watching her Spanish novelas.

Carmen was always a happy person although she had a sassy side too when you pushed her buttons. She loved going shopping to Family Dollar and Walmart or any outing. She was a collector and loved magazine or newspaper clippings or rummaging through store flyers or coupons in the weekly paper or mailings.

She loved walking and was quite fast too and could beat anyone in a race. Carmen was also faith filled catholic and enjoyed going to Mass on Sundays with her sister.

Carmen loved going to school and attended an Adult Day Health Program daily until she became ill. She looked forward to it so much that she would always pack her lunch and stuff the day before. She enjoyed coloring at school and would even bring some of her artwork home to share with family and was proud of her work.

Carmen will be remembered as an Angel on earth and will be in our heart and memories forever. The world is a darker place without her bright and gentle spirit in it.

She is survived by her adoring siblings, Eleuterio Gonzalez, Diega Torres, Carmen Hernandez, Ani Santiago, Ramon Santiago, and the late Santos, Juan, Rafael Gonzalez and Marcos Santiago.  Carmen is also lovingly survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
