Walter “Michael” Foley – of Woburn, died peacefully, May 20th with his family by his side at eighty years of age. He was the beloved husband of Ruth (DiGiacomandrea) Foley.

Born in Boston, Michael was the son of Irish immigrants, the late Sarah (Ford) Foley of County Galway and the late Michael Foley of Kerry and his wife, Bridie (Hogan) of County Clare. Michael was raised in Boston and graduated from Mission Church High School in Roxbury, where he was elected captain of the football team. After high school, he attended Northeastern University, and was a member of the football team.

For 23 years, Michael worked for the MBTA. He worked his way up throughout the years, retiring as the Assistant District Supervisor of the Orange Line in 1988. After retiring, Michael decided to return to school, and received his bachelor’s degree from Bentley College in 1994. He then started and pursued a new career in accounting.

Mike always remained active throughout his life. After formerly retiring, he became an avid golfer, golfing almost daily during the season and enjoyed swimming. In the off season, he was a member of a senior Bowling League and also remained active with the RMCA of Arlington for many years.

Michael’s family was his world and he supported them all in everything they did. He never missed a big event and could always be found on the side lines at his grandchildren’s games.

Michael and Ruth enjoyed traveling the world together. He was proud of his Irish heritage and was blessed to visit Ireland and Italy and cruise throughout the Caribbean. When he was home, he enjoyed tending to his yard and garden, which he always kept meticulous.

He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

In addition to his wife Ruth, Michael is survived and will be deeply missed by his children, Donna Malloy, her husband Eugene of Woburn, Michael William Foley, his wife Tiffany of PA, Heather Cooper, her husband Mark of Billerica, and Colleen Sicari, her husband Daniel of Burlington.
