Denise M. (Oley) Callahan – passed away at her home Friday morning, January 26th, with her beloved family by her side. She was the devoted and loving wife of Walter Callahan Jr, and adored by her daughters and grandchildren.

Born in Arlington, Denise was the oldest of five children born to the late Edwin and Lillian Cunha Oley. Raised and educated in Burlington, she graduated in 1972.

During her younger years, Denise enjoyed cheerleading and sports. She was a ballerina for the Boston Ballet Company, and even auditioned for the New York City Rockettes. She discovered a love for fashion and modeled clothing for magazines. She had a flair for dressing and styling her hair and make up with class and grace from the very start.

After high school, Denise attended Middlesex College where she focused on accounting and then began her career in the dental world as a dental assistant, bookkeeper, and eventually office manager. She spent 47 years working hard and was well loved and respected by her coworkers and patients. She blossomed even further when she became a mother and served this role with extreme pride. She showed unconditional love and support to her daughters.

Another highlight of Denise’s life was when she married Walter, and together they combined five wonderful daughters into the fold. They lived in Arlington for many years, then moved to Woburn, where they remain to this day. Denise and Walter’s 45 years together truly encompassed all the loving qualities one prays for in a marriage. Their home was the beacon for all family to come to for holidays and gatherings. They shared a love for cooking and entertaining. Denise took much pride in making their home comfortable and welcoming. She loved nothing more than decorating for the holidays and always said she did it so her grandchildren would enjoy and make wonderful memories. Her warmth and love could be felt in every single room.

She had also inherited her mother’s talent for sewing and quilt making, and had her father’s artistic eye with gardening.

Denise was known as Mimi to her grandchildren. She was so proud of all they did. She was their strongest advocate and supported them unconditionally. Her influence on them will continue forever.
