JOHN P. DeMONICO SR. – a lifelong resident of Woburn, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, November 15th at the age of eighty-three. Beloved husband of 57 years to Julia M. (Millett) DeMonico. Devoted father of John DeMonico Jr., of Greenville, SC, and James DeMonico, his wife Karen of Conway, NH. Cherished grandfather of Olivia, Sofia and James DeMonico Jr. Dear brother of Emma Schelzi of Woburn, Rita White of North Reading, and the late Mario, Quito, William and Michael DeMonico, and the late Elizabeth Russo and Jeanne Confalone. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to calling hours on Saturday, November 25th from 9-11 a.m., in the Lynch- Cantillon Funeral Home 263 Main St., Woburn, with a funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. in the Funeral Home. Burial in Woodbrook Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in John’s memory to Joslin Diabetes Center or to a charity of one’s choice.

JOHN P. DeMONICO SR. – a lifelong resident of Woburn, died peacefully, surrounded by family, November 15th at the age of 83. He was the beloved husband of Julia M. (Millett) DeMonico for 57 years. 

 

Born and raised in Woburn, John was the youngest of nine children, he was the son of the late Michael and Francesca (DelGreco) DeMonico. He graduated from Woburn High School where he excelled in baseball and hockey and served as a co-captain of the Woburn High Tanner hockey team. He also enjoyed giving back to younger inspiring athletes by coaching baseball in his early years. His love for athletics carried with him throughout the entirety of his life as he became a Bruins Superfan also idolizing Wayne Gretzky, Gordie Howe and Bobby Orr.

 

John worked at his family’s restaurant, Kitty’s in North Reading, where he was a chef and manager, bringing joy to customers for over four decades. He was a dedicated and reliable man who put everything he had into his work.

 

John was a lifelong member and supporter of the Woburn City Athletic Club. He loved socializing and spending time with his buddies, keeping up on sports and current events. He was a generous, strong, yet selfless and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, who will be deeply missed but never forgotten. 

 

In addition to his wife Julia, John is survived by his two sons, John DeMonico Jr., of Greenville, SC, and James DeMonico, along with his wife Karen, of Conway, NH. He was the cherished grandfather of Olivia, Sofia and James DeMonico Jr. He was the dear brother of Emma Schelzi of Woburn, Rita White of North Reading, and the late Mario, Quito, William, and Michael DeMonico, Elizabeth Russo and Jeanne Confalone. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
