KEVIN MURPHY – Of Gloucester, formerly of Woburn, died unexpectedly on November 1st at the age of sixty-one.

Born in Winchester and raised in Woburn, Kevin was a graduate of Woburn Memorial High School. He was the son of the late Mary C. (Day) and John J. Murphy Jr. He was born into a large extended Irish family and was loved by so many.

Kevin spent his childhood summers with his family in Essex where he enjoyed taking their boat to Crane’s Beach everyday. He enjoyed digging for clams, lobster bakes, and spending time on the water. This is where his love of the sea began.

For the last decade, Kevin pursued his great love of fishing and made a career as a commercial fisherman in Gloucester. Spending time in the open water, patiently waiting for a big catch, was were he found peace. Kevin also spent many years working in construction in the Gloucester area.

Kevin was an avid lover of music, especially of Bob Dylan. His greatest love however, was his family. He will be remembered as a kind, compassionate, funny, thoughtful, and generous man. His last and final gift was as an organ donor.

Kevin is survived and will be deeply missed by his siblings, James H. Murphy of Gloucester, William P. Murphy, his wife Sharon of Woburn, Mary C. Hanson, her husband Peter of Woburn, and the late John J. “Jackie” Murphy III, his wife Kate of Billerica. Dear nephew of James Day of Danvers and John Day of Woburn. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and cousinsand was pre-deceased by countless aunts and uncles who were instrumental in his life.

Family and close friends are invited to pay their respects from 10-11:30 on Wednesday November 8th at the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home 263 Main St., Woburn. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Kevin’s memory to the Nashoba Learning Group Attn: Development Office, 10 Oak Park Drive, Bedford, MA 01730 or to Solutions Over Sickness 500 Brookside Dr., Andover, MA 01810
