Lynne S. (DeRosa) Benedetto, a longtime resident of Woburn, passed away with her beloved family at her bedside, early Saturday morning , April 29th after just celebrating her eightieth birthday one week ago. Lynne was the treasured wife of the late Kenneth “Papa” F. Benedetto.
Born in Everett, Lynne was one of two daughters born to the late Peter and Virginia (Saunders) DeRosa. Raised and educated in Everett, Lynne was a graduate of Everett High School along with the Class of 1961. During her tenure at Everett High School, Lynne was a cheerleader for all three sports and it was also during these years that she was introduced to Kenney! Following high school in 1963 they married. They lived a few years in Everett and in the late sixties bought a new home in the newly developing West Side of Woburn.
Lynne had worked at UniFirst Corp., here in Woburn for over thirty years. She worked herself up to the position of Fleet Manager of the Purchasing Dept. She made sure that each and every vehicle had what they needed for delivery, and provided them all, with the what and where, they were going and doing!
Having moved to their home in Woburn, this is where they began their story as a family.
Two daughters were brought into the world, and they were the apples of their parent’s eyes! They spent some vacations at Disneyworld, lots of time at Sebago Lake where they would go each weekend and share special times with friends and their children! Whatever they were involved in throughout the growing up years, they were there. As time went on and they grandchildren began arriving, they could not have been happier. To be called “Nana” gave Lynne great joy!! When they came to visit, Nana was thrilled! The sleepovers, vacations, meals, holidays and special events were everlasting times. Nana was a wonderful story teller! At any time, when spending time with grandchildren Nana always took great pride in the fact, they always wanted to hear more stories! Nana couldn’t have been happier telling them!
Her cooking capabilities were phenomenal! From her meatballs and sauce(which she always had in the freezer for any guests who stopped in) to the chicken, veal and ravioli dishes. And a sweet treat always to follow! Her lemon squares and peanut butter balls, as she was known for both!
Lynne was a very strong woman, right up to the very end. She was strong in her faith, her love of family and there were no strangers in Lynne’s life, everyone she met, she connected to, and called them “friend.” A wonderful legacy, and gift she gave to all.
Sadly, Lynne was predeceased by her husband Kenney and sister Brenda Morello.
She is lovingly survived by her daughters, Sherri L. Benedetto, her husband Wade Winters of Woburn and Jodi L. Benedetto Sullivan of FL. Dear sister of the late Brenda Morello. Cherished Nana of Liana, Nikki, Kaitlyn, and Matthew. Also survived by loving nieces and nephews.
Her Funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday, May 3rd in St. Barbara’s Church, 138 Cambridge Road, Woburn at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 2nd from 4-7 p.m. Interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. Remembrances may be made in Lynne’s memory to the Blind Dog Rescue Alliance, PO Box 63401, Philadelphia, PA 19114 or to the American Cancer Society.

Dear Sherri and Jodi: I am so sorry for your loss and regret that I’m not able to attend the services, as I’m traveling this week. Business brought your mom and I together, but Lynne’s warmth, compassion, teasing, and laughter made us close friends. Lynne and Kenny were two of the most genuine and caring people I’ve ever known, and I’m so fortunate to have so many fond memories of them. Please know that your folks were loved by so many. I hope this brings you comfort in this time of loss.
