SHARON A. (DOHERTY) BOYD – of Woburn, died peacefully, March 9th with her family by her side at the age of fifty-eight. She was the beloved wife of 40 years to Edward J. Boyd Sr.

Born and raised in Woburn, Sharon was a daughter of the late J. Barry and Estelle “Tootie” (Duran) Doherty. She attended St. Charles School and was a graduate of Woburn High School, where she met the love of her life Ed. In 1983 they married, started and raised their family in Woburn.

Sharon was involved with Woburn pop warner for many years, starting out as the mascot while her brothers played football and her mother being the cheer mom, before becoming a cheerleader herself.  Woburn sports was truly a family affair.  When she entered high school, she was actively involved in student government.

Sharon devoted her life to her sons. She was the quintessential “Sport Mom”, and her love of Woburn sports carried on onto her sons.  She never missed a game or practice, and was “captain of the caravan”, always there to drive anyone to practices, games or golf matches.  She volunteered for Woburn Youth Hockey for many years and was a team mom.  She spent many weeks preparing for pasta parties for the Woburn High School football team.  She was their biggest supporter and always cheered them on.

Sharon was a devoted grandmother. She enjoyed being outside with her grandsons, taking them to the park and on walks almost daily. She waited for many years for a girl to enter the family.  Sharon was so excited to finally have a granddaughter, her Sawyer Belle, who was born November of 2022.  Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she talked about them any chance she got.  She attended almost every sports event for Brayden, only missing a game to watch her little terror Bryson.

For many years, Sharon worked in medical records at Winchester Hospital, where she made many longtime friends.  Most recently, she continued her career in healthcare, working at the Woburn Nursing Center on Frances Street.

Sharon’s favorite place was the beach, whether it be Little Neck or Hampton. She spent the majority of her summers in Little Neck with her grandparents.  As a family, Sharon would spend the Fourth of July week every summer at Hampton Beach, a tradition she carried on with her children.

In addition to her husband, Sharon is survived and will be deeply missed by her sons, Devoted mother of Edward Boyd Jr. and Erica Dolloff of Beverly, Michael Boyd, Danny Boyd, his wife Melissa all of Woburn, and the late Edward John Boyd. Treasured grandmother of Brayden, Bryson and Sawyer Boyd. Dear sister of Barry Doherty of Woburn, Paul and Lisa Doherty of Stoneham, Colleen and John Pavone of Lowell, David Doherty of Woburn, Robert Doherty of Southbridge, and Timothy Doherty of New Orleans. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
