Edith L. (Fresenga) Coiro – a lifelong resident of Woburn, died peacefully, February 26th at the age of ninety-three. Beloved wife of the late Samuel L. Coiro, Sr. Devoted mother of Samuel Coiro, Jr., his wife Candee of Tewksbury, Gayle Hackworth, her husband John of Woburn, LuAnne Barkalow, her husband Ed of Sarasota, FL, and Stephen Coiro, his wife Suzanne of Salem. Cherished grandmother of Edward, Michael, Kerri, Aprile, Heather, Jesse, LiAnne, and Brittany, as well as 11 great-grandchildren. Dear sister of Florence Fresenga of Woburn, Jenny DeVito of Woburn, Antonette “Toni” Gallo, her husband Frank of Woburn, Marie Cummings of Tewksbury and the late Louise Fresenga, Anne Newell and Lucy M. Edith L. (Fresenga) Coiro – a lifelong resident of Woburn, died peacefully, February 26th at the age of ninety-three. She was the beloved wife of sixty-four years the late Samuel L. Coiro, Sr.
Born and raised in Woburn, Edith was the beloved daughter of the late Louis and Antonette (Matondi) Fresenga. She was a graduate of Woburn High School. While working at Jerome’s Restaurant, once located in Woburn Center near the Strand Theatre, Edith met the love of her life, Sam Coiro. They were sweethearts throughout High school and married and settled in the South End of Woburn where they raised their four children.
For many years, Edith worked for the Woburn School System as a lunch lady, and later for New Horizons in Woburn.
Edith’s greatest pleasure was spending time with family and friends. She was a longtime fan of Engelbert Humperdinck and a member of his fan club, traveling all around to see him. She was also an exceptional cook. Edith was known for her kindness, sweetness, and beautiful smile, and will be deeply missed.
Edith will be lovingly remembered by her children, Samuel Coiro, Jr., his wife Candee of Tewksbury, Gayle Hackworth, her husband John of Woburn, LuAnne Barkalow, her husband Ed of Sarasota, FL, and Stephen Coiro, his wife Suzanne of Salem.
