ELVIRA V. “VERA” (GALANTE) ROBERTS
February 25, 2023

Elvira V. “Vera” (Galante) Roberts, passed away peacefully, with family by her side, at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House, Saturday, February 25th after a brief illness. The beloved wife of the late Harold B. Roberts, Vera was ninety-eight years of age.
Born in Woburn, Vera was one of nine children born to the late Donato and Angelina (Tancredi) Galante. Raised in the North Woburn section of the City Vera was educated in the Woburn Schools, having graduated in 1942. Following high school Vera entered St. John’s Nursing School in Lowell.
This was during the time of World War II, and there was a callout across the United States for Nurses, and Vera became a “Cadet Nurse” and remained active till the end of the War.
This led to a lifelong profession, which spanned Vera’s lifetime in a variety of ways. Vera returned to Lesley University where she received her BS in Nursing. Her nursing experiences went from Winchester Hospital, to being an Industrial Nurse at Sylvania Electrical and Digital Corporation, and for the last thirty two years of her nursing career, a Woburn Public School Nurse, having worked at the Joyce Middle School and Woburn High School, and retiring as the Head Nurse.
While working in the schools Vera would chaperone, all the different ski trips, and often during the summertime she would work as a Camp Nurse, where her children were also participants!
Throughout the years Vera was also quite active raising her children, involved with the outdoor activities and educational festivities. Horseback riding, skiing, swimming, camping, kept the Roberts family very busy over the years.
Vera also enjoyed gardening. When the spring came along she dedicated herself to all the flowers and vegetables she could handle in her yard, and then some! They also would enjoy vacations both here and abroad, and never went to a place they didn’t like! Knitting always kept very busy in the evenings. Hat’s, mittens, sweaters and scarves were always available for those cold winter days skiing.
Vera had made her home in later years in Florida for a while and with her daughter Kathy in Vermont.
Vera also found the time to be actively involved with the Mass Teachers Assoc., Mother Cabrini Nurses Guild, and St Anthony Ladies Auxiliary Guild.
Sadly Vera was predeceased by her husband Harold, and daughters, Kathy and Mary, along with her siblings,Albert, Oliver, Armand, Donald, Louis, Gilda and Vincenzia.
Vera is lovingly survived by her son Stephen Roberts, his wife Cindy of FL, her dear grandchildrenDaniel Roberts, his wife Kendra, Kara Ruiter, her husband Nathan, and the late Andrew Roberts. Dear sister of John Galante, his wife Patricia of Brewster. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

My memories of my cousin Vera are of a strong loving life woman. We did not cross paths often but there must have been a visit shortly after she lived in Florida. She talked about riding her bike and I was so impressed by her vitality. Love to you all.
My Thoughts and Prayers are with Vera’s family.
So enjoyed her spending a day with us at Little Island Pond few summers ago . I cannot believe how sharp she was. I truly enjoyed her company.
