Rosa (Ziparo) Iani – of Woburn, passed away peacefully, January 21, 2023, at the age of eighty-nine.  She was the beloved wife of 55 years to the late Joseph Iani.

Born on August 8, 1933 in Girifalco, Italy, Rosa was a daughter of the late Gangala Angelarosa and Rocco Ziparo. She resided in Girifalco until her marriage to beloved husband Guiseppe “Joseph” Iani. Upon her marriage, she moved to Cortale, Italy, and finally to Woburn, MA in 1963, to join her husband.

Following her move to Woburn, she worked in housekeeping at Winchester Hospital in the maternity ward for many years, until her health forced her to retire. She was self-taught in English, and active at St. Charles Church, where she attended Mass and donated flowers for holiday Masses.

She was a generous woman who loved gardening and cooking traditional foods from her native Calabria.  At her house, there was always homemade wine, sausages, sauces, and breads. Most of all, she cherished spending time with her family, including helping to raise her grandson, Joseph DeRosa. She will be deeply missed.

She was predeceased by her husband Joseph; her grandson Michael Iani; her sister, Maria Siniscalco, and her brother Francesco Ziparo of Girifalco, Italy.

She is survived by her son, Anthony Iani, his wife Joan, of South Yarmouth; her daughter, Maria Bond, her husband, Thomas of Woburn; and her stepdaughter, Teresa Surianello, her husband Ralph of Methuen; grandchildren Joseph, Angela and Ana DeRosa, Christopher and David Iani, Sarah Vostok, and Marybeth Tassinari, along with her 9 great-grandchildren.
