Dorothy M. (Chute) Gilbert – Of Winchester, died peacefully, January 2nd at the age of eighty-one. Loving wife of the late Paul V. Gilbert Sr. Beloved mother of Debra Fiore, her wife Joanne of N.C, Paul Gilbert Jr., his wife Paula of Woburn, Denise Tartarini, her husband Michael of Reading, Michael Gilbert, his wife Diana of Dracut, Donna Ballou, her husband Chris of Andover, Frank Gilbert of Worcester, and the late Joshua Gilbert, his wife Jill of Andover. Dear sister of Leroy and James Chute, both of Winchester and Carol Schrock, her husband Gerald of Hamilton.  Also lovingly survived fourteen grandchildren, two great-grandsons and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A Funeral Service will be held on Tues. January 10th  at 10 a.m. in the First Baptist Church Of Winchester 90 Mount Vernon St., Winchester. Burial will follow in Puritan Lawn Cemetery, Peabody. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dorothy’s memory to Plummer Foster Care 290 Merrimack St, Suite 206. Lawrence, MA 01843. Dorothy (“Dodie”) Mary Gilbert (née Chute) , passed away, January 2, 2023, at BrightView Country Club Heights, in Woburn, MA, with family by her side. The beloved wife of the late Paul Vernon Gilbert, Sr., she was 81 years old.

Born and raised in Winchester, MA, Dodie was one of four children born to the late James and Mary (née Nickerson) Chute. Dodie was a graduate of Winchester High School, Somerville Hospital School of Nursing (RN) and Gordon College (BA).

A lifelong and dedicated nurse, Dodie loved and was beloved by colleagues, friends and patients. She worked in a variety of specialties during her career including the operating rooms at Lawrence Memorial and the New England Memorial Hospitals, as well as management at both the Elmhurst Nursing Home in Melrose, MA and the Winchester Nursing Home in Winchester, MA.

With a spirit of service and conviction, in her sixties, Dodie returned to school to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Divinity at Gordon College.

Dodie was a beloved mother and was elated to see her family grow to include many grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she adored. Most summer vacations were spent at the family cottage in York with her children and grandchildren which brought her great joy throughout the years.

She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Stoneham, MA among others. She had many church friends and enjoyed a wide range of church activities.

A beautiful smile, genuine kindness, and a desire to be of service to others is how Dodie will be remembered. This was her legacy and has left her family and friends with wonderful long lasting memories.

She was the beloved mother of Debra Fiore, (Joanne) of Carrboro N.C, Paul Gilbert Jr., (Paula) of Woburn, MA, Denise Tartarini, (Michael) of Reading, MA, Michael Gilbert, (Diana) of Dracut, MA, Donna Ballou, (Chris) of Andover, MA, Frank Gilbert of Worcester, MA. She was predeceased by her son, Joshua Gilbert, (Jill ) of Andover, MA.

She was the dear sister of Leroy and James Chute, both of Winchester, MA and Carol Schrock (Gerald) of Hamilton, MA. She is lovingly survived by fourteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
