Bert Garrity was my first cousin once removed on my fathers side of the family. He walked up to me one day in high school and said “Hi, I am Bert Garrity your cousin!
I knew all about his family, but I didn’t know any of the kids. We never missed an opportunity to say, “Hi Cuz” from then on. He was always smiling and friendly to everyone. I am not surprised by his past students writing about his being a dedicated teacher/mentor and a friend. I am thrilled to hear he had a successful career in education. My brother, Richard Garrity played baseball with Bert’s brother Richard. One day they played a game together and the Woburn Times reported that Richard Garrity pitched a game to catcher, Richard Garrity! Cousins!

We send our sincere condolences to our cousins, Clan Garrity.

  6. Phil & Linda Burns

We were neighbors to Bert and Arlene on Rose Farm Lane for 20 plus years. We would always see Bert walking every day. He was a gentle soul. May his soul rest in peace.

  7. My deepest condolences go out to the Garrity family. As a friend of Kelly later in our high school years, I didn’t have pleasure of meeting Bert except on occasion, although the few times I did get to spend time with him, he always gave off an energy of kindness. That kindness and good heart has clearly passed to his younger generation. Wishing the family peace in these very difficult times. -Megan Gregg

  8. I have very fond memories of Mr. Garrity picking Kelly and I up and taking us to her grandmothers after school. He was always so nice and patient with us. I remember him being so calm and sweet laughing at our crazy stories. I really appreciated his kindness through our childhood. My heart goes out to all of your family. I hope you find comfort in the many memories you shared with him.

  9. Kelly and Shawn,

Sending my deepest condolences. His memory will live on with you and your beautiful families.

    Love, Emmy Cohen

  11. Amy (Silva) Cardoso

Mr. Garrity was one of my favorite teachers at JMS (I had him for 8th grade US History in 1999-2000).

Educators like him are why I entered the field.

Prayers to his children, grandchildren, and other loved ones.
