Mary M. (Murphy) Paiva – of Woburn, September 19th, beloved wife of Manuel J. Paiva, at eighty-four years of age. Devoted mother of Christine Paiva of Salem, Patricia Paiva of Arlington and Steven Paiva, his wife Stacey of Billerica. Dear sister of the late Patricia “Tricia” Burgess, Sheila “Judy” Nowick and John J. Murphy Jr. Cherished grandmother of Elizabeth Martell and Colleen Paiva, and great grandmother of Sienna and Grace Ciccia, Fawn, Michael Edwards and Hunter Martell. Mary is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Barbara Church, 136 Cambridge Road, Woburn, on Monday, September 26th at NOON. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to calling hours, Monday, 9:30-11:30 a.m. PRIOR to Mary’s Funeral Mass in the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home 263 Main St., Woburn. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to the Cocker Spaniel Rescue of New England or the National Kidney Foundation.
Mary M. (Murphy) Paiva, 84, of Woburn, passed away on Monday, September 19, 2022. She was born in Boston, MA to the late John T. and Christina (Connolly) Murphy. She spent most of her childhood growing up in Centerville and Osterville, MA with a short stint during her high school years in Heidelberg, Germany. She attended Dean Junior College in Franklin, MA and received her Associates Degree in Executive Secretarial Studies. Her college yearbook says she was known for being full “of good cheerfulness and a good temper”. She worked at the John Hancock in Boston where she met Manuel (Manny) J. Paiva with whom she had shared almost 60 years of marriage. She also spent many years working at Medical Parameters and later Woodco Machinery/CN Wood. She loved to watch a good football game with one of their cocker spaniels curled up at her feet and used to enjoy watching and playing tennis. What she truly loved was spending time with her great grandchildren or having a nice lunch with a peach bellini cocktail.
She is predeceased by her brother, John T. Murphy, Jr., and her sisters Sheila (Judy) A. Nowick and Patricia A. Burgess. She is survived by her children Christine Paiva and her fiancé, Timothy J. Boucher of Salem, MA, Patricia M. Paiva of Arlington, MA, and Steven Paiva and wife, Stacey, of Billerica, MA, as well as her granddaughters Elizabeth M. Martell and husband, Norman of Hudson, NH and Colleen S. Paiva and partner Michael Edwards of Dorchester, MA. She is also survived by her beloved great grandchildren, Hunter, Sienna, Grace, Fawn, and Michael and several nieces and nephews.

My deepest sympathies to you Christine, Patricia, Stephen and the whole Paiva family. I will always remember my visits to Woburn and how full of life and fun your Mum was. R.I.P. Peggy.
