Mary J. (Sena) Hill – a lifelong resident of Woburn, died peacefully, July 28th at her home with her family by her side, at the age of ninety-nine. She was the beloved wife of 56 years to the late Herbert E. Hill.

Born and raised in Woburn, Mary was a daughter of the late Nicholas and Sarah Mary (Carton) Sena. She was a graduate of St. Charles High School.

In 1953 Mary met a young veteran, Herbert Hill who swept her off her feet! They dated for three months, were engaged, and married. The next fifty-six years, they were devoted to one another and their four children.

Prior to raising her family, Mary worked for Winchester Laundry. When her children went to school, Mary started her own house keeping business, cleaning many homes around the area. Never driving or owning a car, Mary always got around. She was a hardworking and independent woman whom could never sit still!

Mary’s life was filled with a lot of adversity, having almost drowned at the age of nine and numerous falls throughout the years – she always made it through. Her resilience, strong will and determination was remarkable no matter the circumstance.

Always a very active person, Mary enjoyed walking everywhere! She slowed down just a bit in her later years but continued to live at her home with the help of her family. She enjoyed reading, especially James Patterson novels and loved to watch her favorite TV shows, always singing and dancing along!

She had a strong sense of family and friends and loved spending time with her ever growing family. These people were her greatest joys, and she would brag about them all nonstop to anyone who would listen. She was always their biggest supporter and would encourage them in anything they would do! She will be greatly missed!

The family would like to thank the tremendous nurses and staff of Lahey Health at Home for all of the care and support they showed to the family on their quest to keep Mary at her beloved home.

Our deepest condolences to the family. Jeanette was a great friend right up to the end. She made us smile with her smile and joyful spirit. Loved her stubborn streak too! She was so childlike & it was always such a blessing to see her, especially after her fall. She never gave up! She loved her husband, her kids, & her grandkids! So sorry for this great loss, but so glad she’s in her heavenly home with the love of her life.💗 Mr & Mrs Hill raised a beautiful family & we’re so thankful for their lives. Herbie & Jeanette’s was a true love story. 💕 The greatest generation!
