Paul S. Sands passed away unexpectedly, at the Lahey Clinic, Tuesday, June 7th after a severe fall at his home.  The beloved husband of Rosanne “Rosey” (Guilli) Sands was seventy-three years of age.

Born in Worcester, he was one of three  sons born to the late George W. and Virginia M. (Shevlin) Sands.  Having moved to Arlington at an early age, he was raised and educated there and a graduate of Arlington High School along with the Class of 1968.

While attending high school he had the great pleasure of knowing Rosey Guilli.  Paul worked at a gas station in town and Rosey and friends would frequent the facility!  Well, they began dating and in 1973 they became husband and wife 49 years ago.

In 1969, Paul began a professional career, working with Phillip Medical Technology Company, formally Hewlett-Packard Medical Company.  For over the next forty-eight years, Paul rose to the Senior Buyer of the Company, retiring in 2017.

Paul and Rosey brought a daughter , Kimberly Ciasullo and a son, Eric Sands, into the world, and what a wonderful world it became!  They dedicated themselves to raising  their children and becoming the fine, responsible , loving and caring adults and parents they are today.

Paul actually was the one of the first “founding fathers” of the Woburn Youth Soccer Program back in the very early eighties and was a significant part of building the program and remaining with it to present day.  He served as President of WYS for 5 years. From helping to build the food Snack Shack , developing all the different fields throughout the city, then to one major field, which holds many fields at one location, “the Joyce.”  He personally coached for thirty plus years in WYS.  Paul coached all ages from U8, U10, U14, and U19! A hill at the Joyce soccer fields was dedicated to Paul in 2019. Paul was known for conditioning his players by them running the hills.

In 1987 Paul began coaching in the Woburn Public Schools.  He started out as the Freshman Boys’ Soccer Coach for fifteen years and then on to Woburn Senior High School as the Boys’ Varsity Coach until his retirement on October 25th, 2018.

All throughout these years Paul’s reputation preceded him.  He served on many different Board of Directors,’ Fund Raising activities for all the different organizations, President of the Woburn Boys and Girls Club, Middlesex Soccer Board, Eastern Mass Soccer Coaches Assoc., Board, Past Grand Knight and 4th degree Knight of Knights of Columbus, Arlington Council 109, Past President of Knights in Arlington . He was inducted into Massachusetts Soccer Coaches Association Hall Of Fame in 2018. He also enjoyed golfing in his spare time.
Paul has been described as truly just one happy man.  He was a dedicated son, husband, father, “Papa” “Coach, friend and person.

All that he did, he was always most involved with his family.  As his grandchildren’s biggest fan, he would try to attend every sporting event the grandkids played cheering them on. Over the years they would always spend a week at Falmouth Heights during the summer months, where it was considered by Paul and his family as the “best week of the year!”  And since the grandchildren began arriving, they’ve been there too and “Papa” was totally in his element, surrounded by his beloved family.  Truly a life and legacy full of, and all about, love.   A man who positively impacted every single person, young and old, who had the privilege of sharing time, with Paul  in his all-encompassing life.

  23. Rosie, Kim, Eric and families-
Our hearts go out to each of you on the passing of our beloved Paul. Paul was selfless in his commitment to helping all who came in contact with him across family, home, work, the Woburn community, schools and sports. Paul’s commitment to his sports students was amazing and many a competitor knew how well he prepared his kids long before they set foot on a Woburn sports field.

As an HP side-by-side work mate so long ago, I learned a great deal from Paul.
I will miss his friendship and support. Over the decades, we remained in contact and always shared a meal together with our friend Sal each time I came into town. Each gathering was full of good stories and laughter.

Hopefully, God and Saint Peter have comfortable chairs as they enjoy all the stories Paul will bring to the Heavenly party.

Carol and I send our love and heartfelt prayers to all of you.
