George E. “Bud” Simonds Jr. – Of Woburn, peacefully, February 10th, on his ninety-second birthday, surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of 68 years to Helen M. (Higgins) Simonds. Devoted father of Nancy Vadala, her husband Michael of North Reading, Julie Simonds of Woburn, Kathy Simonds of Billerica, David Simonds, his wife Lorinda of Billerica and Peter Simonds, his wife Heather of North Andover. Cherished grandfather of Kyle, Derek, Sarah, Katie, Noah and Tommy. Loving brother of Jean Courtney, her late husband Bill, the late Bob Simonds, his wife Anne, Ronald Simonds, his spouse Raoul Ajamil, Sr. Nancy Simonds, SND, the late Tom Simonds, his wife Jean all of Woburn, the late Ann E. Hogan, her late husband Dan, and the late James Simonds, his wife Judy of ME. Also lovingly survived by many godchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. Dear brother-in-law of the late Joseph and Lillian, George and Mary, Robert and Ann and Edward Higgins, as well as son-in-law to the late Nellie and Patrick. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend his Funeral Mass on Wednesday, February 16th in St. Anthony Church, 851 Main St., Woburn at 11:30 a.m. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held prior to the Mass from 9-11 a.m. in the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main St., Woburn, MA. In lieu of flowers, Remembrances may be made in George’s honor to the Sisters of Notre Dame 30 Jeffreys Neck Rd., Ipswich, MA 01938.

 

George E. “Bud” Simonds Jr. – a lifelong resident of Woburn, died peacefully, February 10th, on his ninety-second birthday, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of 68 years to Helen M. (Higgins) Simonds.

Born and raised in Woburn, George was one of eight children, born of the late George E. and Mildred E. (Toomey) Simonds. He was raised in the South End of the city and was educated in St. Charles Elementary and graduated from Woburn High School. Following High School, George enlisted in the US Army National Guard where he served proudly during the Korean Conflict. He served with the 182d Infantry Regimental Combat Team, Company G until being honorably discharged at the rank of Master Sergeant.

For employment , George had various printing jobs including The Woburn Daily Times. He started with New England Telephone as Print Manager for the yellow pages division, and moved up to Corporate Services Manager at Verizon before he retired after 36 years. 

George’s life was his family. He enjoyed family gatherings and the annual trips to Barbados he would take with his siblings. Friday night card games were also a staple in his life and he’d never miss one.

George was an avid gardener and loved tending to his yard and flowers.  He was also a proud sports fan, especially of the Patriots and Red Sox.

George remained active throughout the years and enjoyed taking long daily walks. He was also a longtime communicant of St. Anthony Church and served as usher for many years. He loved reading the paper every day and keeping up with his friends. He was a kind, caring and strong man who will be deeply missed.

Along with his wife Helen, George is survived by his children, Nancy Vadala, her husband Michael of North Reading, Julie Simonds of Woburn, Kathy Simonds of Billerica, David Simonds, his wife Lorinda of Billerica and Peter Simonds, his wife Heather of North Andover.     To the Simonds family: My condolences, sympathies, and prayers on the passing of “Bud.” He was a popular and well-liked classmate. I reviewed our 1948 high school Yearbook wherein he is described as …”known to all and easily remembered as the owner of the red wave…quiet…has a hobby of smiling…nice.” I remember him as a dedicated parishioner and usher at St. Anthony of Padua where he was an usher. “Bud” was the consummate gentleman.
