John J. Roche – Of Stoneham and Medford, peacefully, September 22nd at the age of ninety-nine. Beloved husband of the late Lucille (Gaudet) Roche. Cherished father of the late John J. “Jack” Roche and the late Thomas H. Roche. Survived by his devoted daughter-in-law Beverly A. “Bev” (Gibson) Roche. Loving “Papa” of Alyson L. “Aly” Roche, her partner Douglas “Doug” W. Olander of Woburn, Timothy G. “Tim” Roche, his wife Angelica of AL and the late Brad Roche, his wife Denise Forlizzi-Roche of Tewksbury. Adored great-papa of Abbey, John, Bradford, Timothy, Jr., Emma, Mikey and Josh. He was pre-deceased by 4 brothers and one sister. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will take place on Monday, September 27th at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick Church 71 Central St. Stoneham. Interment to follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Family and friends are kindly invited to pay their respects on Sunday from 2 – 4 p.m. in the Lynch- Cantillon Funeral Home 263 Main St., Woburn, MA.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in John’s memory to the Fuller House 32 Franklin St, Stoneham, MA 02180, St. Patrick Church 71 Central St. Stoneham, MA or to a charity of ones choice. 

John J. Roche – Of Stoneham and Medford, died unexpectedly at the young age of ninety-nine, September 22nd, with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of 59 years, to the late Lucille (Gaudet) Roche.

Born and raised in Charlestown to a strong Irish Catholic family, John was a son of the late Harry and Annie (Drumgool) Roche. He was educated in Charlestown and a graduate of Boston English High School. After graduation he enlisted in the US Navy and served his country proudly during WWII until being honorably discharged.

Upon returning from War, John met a sweet young lady, Lucy while both working in Charlestown. They later married and raised their 2 beautiful sons in Somerville.

For many years, John worked as a supervisor for the Federal Government in the Defense Contract Administration Services Department.

He was a kind, caring and hardworking man with a good sense of humor. He loved to watch sports and spend time with his family. He remained active throughout his life and enjoyed walking everywhere. As a faithful catholic, John attended St. Patrick’s Church in Stoneham daily and when unable would watch it on TV.

John lived long and lived well. He loved and was loved.

The family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses and staff who cared for John in the last few years including the staff of The Fuller House of Stoneham as well as the Sawtelle Hospice House, who supported him and the family during his final day.

John will be missed by all who knew him. He was the cherished father of the late John J. “Jack” Roche and the late Thomas H. Roche.   2. John always brought light to the room whether it was during a holiday or during a medical appointment with me. He was always talkative and always wanted to know what was up in my life and with my family. I’ll miss his witty comments and the love he showed all of us

  3. John loved his family. He enjoyed a card game and he was a true Boston sports fan. Will be missed, John rest in peace.
