Leina R. “Lee” (Romanuk) DeSimone – Of Peabody, formerly of Woburn and Lynn, May 22nd, at the age of sixty-nine. She was the beloved wife of the late Gerald C. “Jerry” DeSimone.

Born in Salem, MA and raised in Peabody, Lee was a beloved daughter of the late Peter and Ruth (Leinbach) Romanuk. She was a graduate of Lynn English High School.

Leina dedicated and devoted her life to caring for her children and those in need of a family, fostering over 100 children throughout the years.  Whether it was for a brief time or a lifetime, she made each child feel loved unconditionally and enriched their lives.

Leina lived in Woburn for twenty years before moving to Lowell and then ultimately back to Peabody. Spending time with her many children and grandchildren was her greatest joy. She enjoyed taking road trips with friends, going to craft fairs and vacationing at their NH cottage.  She was a social butterfly and loved being around family and friends.

Lee had a great faith and was a longtime member of the Church of the Living God in Woburn and read her bible religiously.

Lee is survived and will be deeply missed by her children, Marcus DeSimone of Salem, NH, Benjamin DeSimone, his wife Aubre of Chicopee, Adam DeSimone, his wife Michelle of Sandown, NH, Andrew DeSimone of Braintree, Crystal Taher, her husband Dan of FL, William Pousland of Somerville, Christopher Pousland of Saugus and Nicole Pousland of Somerville. Cherished grandmother of Norah, Lia, Olive, Astrid, Jeremy, Poppy, Corey, Kiersten, Juan and Enzo.  Dear sister of Sherry, Sandra, Marsha and the late Gregory.

To Marcus Ben Adam Andrew Crystal Billy Chris and Niki I’m so sorry for the loss of mom. She was a good person to everyone in her own special way. She always made you feel special whether it was your birthday Christmas thanksgiving or weekend holiday she would be the one to acknowledge it. She loved being around family and friends and she was so funny because you never knew what she was going to say. She was very proud of her family and everyone knew it. I loved mom so much and will always keep her in my heart. I will always cherish the memories of her smile and never forget her special saying “Where was I, Nobody tells me anything” Mom was a good sister-in-law to our family and we are glad she stayed close with us. She is with Dad now and is peaceful. God Bless I love all of you. Auntie Debbie Garrett Ashley and Greg Gignac.

Lee was my heart, my friend, my confidant – my gift from God. No words can fully express my gratefulness for her in my life nor describe my grieve. I am very aware that she is in pure happiness with Jesus in Heaven and with her much loved husband Jerry and her brother Greg. My love and prayers are for her children, grandchildren and the rest of her family. She was a gift to all of you!

  5. I am so sorry to hear of Lee’s passing, but comforted to know that she is in the arms of her beloved husband Gerry. I met Lee at Essex Aggie in 1979 and maintained a relationship with her all these many years, our annual Christmas Card was a treasure to enjoy as we caught up with the previous year! I watched her family grow….and grow. She so loved her children and her foster children. Lee was a true gem. She will be missed, but not forgotten. RIP my dear friend.
