Irene A. (Cornell) Maloney, passed away at the Winchester Hospital, early Tuesday morning, April 20th, with her beloved family at her bedside.  Irene was the loving wife of the late Joseph W. Maloney.

Born in Reading, Irene  was the daughter of the late John and Helen (Lux) Cornell.  Raised and educated in Reading, Irene was a graduate of Reading High School.  After high school Irene secured herself a position in Boston as a model and later at the New England Telephone Company.

A vacation in Chatham, led to Irene meeting a wonderful gentleman, whom she later married in 1954, Joe Maloney.  They began their married life in Malden, later moving to Winchester where they have made their home for decades.

Dedicated to her husband and three children throughout the years,

Irene and Joe were most  attentive to all their activities, schooling, enjoying many different activities and vacations as a family along the way.

All throughout the years Irene enjoyed reading a good book.  It did not matter the genre, if caught her interest, it was read.  As the children married and moved out of state, Irene and Joe were just a “drive” away.  They thought nothing of hopping in the car and venturing off.  Even after Joe passed away, Irene kept up the visits until ninety years of age!

Walking each and everyday, kept her in excellent health, and often was a challenge to keep up with!  Sewing, painting, gardening, and reading always kept Irene busy, and with a mission.

Socially she and Joe had a wonderful group of friends that they would travel with, dine and just have some truly great and memorable moments over the years.  A faith filled, kind, sensitive and very caring woman, Irene lived life to the fullest.  She enjoyed each and every day, remaining very active right up till a very short time ago and always with no greater love, than that she had for her family.

Sadly, Irene was predeceased by her husband Joe, parents and brother John.  She is lovingly survived by her devoted children; Maryellen Kassab, her husband Mark of NC, Joanne Hankard, her husband Gary Dunlap of NJ and Dr. Joseph G. Maloney, of Burlington.  Treasured “Nan” of Jacquelyne Hankard.  A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated in St. Eulalia’s Church, 50 Ridge Street, Winchester, on Friday, April 23rd, at 11 a.m. followed by Irene’s interment in Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester.  Remembrances may be made to honor Mrs. Maloney to; St Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105-9959.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn.
