Domenic Raneri passed away Thursday December 24th.  The beloved husband of the late Catherine (Crupi) Raneri was eighty five years of age.  Their marriage spanned over sixty five years , right up until June fourth of this year, when Catherine passed away.

Born in Sicily, Italy to the late Joseph and Antonia (Chirieleison) Raneri he was one of three children.  Domenic attended school there in Sicily and at the age of six, half  his schooling was in academics and the other half was in woodworking, which was his life long passion!

Throughout his professional career he worked hard at being the best craftsman he could possibly be.  Working for a furniture Company in Cambridge, and later Domenic was in charge of the Carpenter Shop at Boston University, for over thirty years, 1969 – 2000, when he retired.  During his time at Boston University Domenic made sure that each and every piece of mahogany, oak and many other treasured woods were all kept up to look brand new, which he did maintain beautifully over those years.  His hard work did not go unnoticed.  Domenic was the recipient of  an honorary Doctoral Degree from Boston University in 2000, for his exemplary work and extra ordinary workmanship.

He was an upscale craftsman who created masterpieces of furniture including, tables, buffets and often working with in lay pieces.  Beautiful!  His children and family members were all recipients of his very special talents.

Domenic’s greatest joy of all in his life was his family.  Together he and Catherine raised two wonderful children to whom they were devoted Antonietta and Joseph.  They did lots of traveling , spent many happy times at their home in Palm Beach, FL and thoroughly enjoyed each others company all throughout the years.  They were always a team; “all for one and one for all, “and that never wavered.

Domenic was sadly predeceased by his beloved Catherine, and parents Joseph and Antonia.

He is lovingly survived by his children Antonietta Gobiel, her husband Michael of Woburn and Joseph Raneri, his wife Josephine of Tewksbury;  brother of Agatina Curreri, her husband Benjamin and Stefano Raneri and his wife Ada. Devoted “Nonno” of Gabriella, Michael, Gregory, Katherine, Carolyn and Domenic. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Arrangements are private and are under the direction of the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn MA.

Antonietta and Joey – May I add that your father was an amazing gardener. He shared many tips about proper composting and how to deter all kinds of pests. I still use his techniques to this day! Domenic was a good man, a good husband and a good father. Please accept my sympathy.
