William M. “Bill” Foley passed away at his home Tuesday, August 18th.  The beloved husband of the late Catherine J. (Rufo) Foley, he was eighty years of age.

Born in Boston, he was one of six children born to the late Michael W. and Sarah (Ford) Foley.  Raised in the Mission Hill section of Boston, he later moved to Malden where he graduated from Malden Catholic High School with the Class of 1957. Over the years Bill went to Northeastern University and proudly received a degree in Electrical Engineering.

While in high school Bill met Catherine at a dance held at the school, and shortly thereafter, in 1962, they became husband and wife.

Bill went right to the working world after high school, securing himself a position at New England Telephone and Telegraph at age 18.  There he remained over the next 30 years and rose to the position of manager, retiring from there in 1989.

Bill and Catherine were the lovingly devoted parents of one daughter and three sons.  He followed them all very closely throughout their years, having been an active attendee at cheerleading events, baseball, football and basketball games as well as wrestling matches throughout his children’s school years.

They also would vacation at their Cape home, where they entertained family and friends throughout the summer months.

Irish dances were an all-time favorite of Bill and Catherine, always attending with their friends whenever they could. He was quite witty and social when out and about and was an extremely loyal gentleman. The couple embarked on several trips over the years, having gone to his parents’ homeland of Ireland, which they thoroughly enjoyed.  They also took several cruises, which they also enjoyed.  But all in all, there was no place like home!

A voracious reader, Bill would have a couple of books going at the same time, enjoying many different genres but especially history. However, Bill’s greatest joy in life was his family.

Sadly, Bill was predeceased by his dear wife Catherine in 2011.  He is lovingly survived by his dear children William M. Foley, Jr., of Cambridge, Catherine F. Stack and her husband David of Woburn, Joseph A. Foley of Woburn and Christopher M. Foley and his wife Cynthia of Wrentham. Loving Papa of Catriona Stack and Payton and Michael Foley. Dear brother of W. Michael Foley and his wife Ruth of Woburn, Monica Tortola and her late husband Fred of Waltham, John Foley of Burlington and the late James Foley, Mary Carleton, and her late husband James. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend Bill’s Funeral Mass, Monday, August  24th at 11:30 a.m., in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn. Interment to follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Close family and friends are invited to briefly pay their respects prior to the Mass from 9:30-11:15 a.m., in the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn MA.  Masks are required to enter the Funeral Home and Church, along with strict adherence to social distancing.
