James “Jay” Sutherlin, of Woburn passed away at the age of 61 on May 19, 2020, following a three-year battle with ALS.

Jay was born and raised in Charlestown, Ma on October 10, 1958 to the late James and Lois (Flemming) Sutherlin. Jay grew up to marry the love of his life, Elaine Amendola, and together, they settled to raise their family in a city that Jay often stated, “smells like hotdog water.”  Jay and Elaine raised their two children, Jiliane and Bryan, who have exuded Jay’s wild personality.

Jay was employed as a Delivery Driver with Fedex Ground for 15 years where he made many friends along his route and seemed to know everyone everywhere. Jay never missed an opportunity to crack an inappropriate joke and make anyone smile. Although a less than average life span, Jay did not live an average life. He traveled where he wanted to travel, skied where he wanted to ski, and laughed inappropriately at every chance he had. His passions included skiing, vacationing in Virgin Gorda, talking to strangers, Nate the comic strip, coffee with a shot of sambuca on the side, being a Dogpa to Millie, cold Boston Lagers after work, and making his children uncomfortable in public settings.

Along with his wife of 32 years, Elaine Sutherlin, Jay is survived, and will be deeply missed by his children, Jiliane and her husband Seth Gordon and Bryan Sutherlin, all of Woburn. He is also survived by his brother Robert Sutherlin and his husband Dennis of Stoneham, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Jay is preceded in death by his parents, James and Lois (Flemming) Sutherlin, his sister, Jeanmarie Prevost, and his brother-in-law Robert Carrigg.
