It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Pearl D. (Johnson) Quartarone, age 94, one month short of her 95th birthday of Saugus/Woburn on April 25th ,2020. The cause of death is listed as the covid19 virus.

Pearl was born to parents Edith “Carr” and Walter Johnson on May 31, 1925 in Everett, Ma. She was the sister of the late Walter and Earl Johnson and the late Bill Perch and Edith Gray. Pearl spent most of her early years living and working in Boston where she met her future husband Frank.

In 1950, Pearl and Frank were married and continued to live in the Boston area for seven year before purchasing their home in Saugus. It was here they remained raising their family and enjoying many of life’s celebrations until Frank’s death in 1987.

Pearl took great pride in raising her family as a stay at home mother, in 1965, she entered the workforce once again and spent many years working at GEM and Kmart before retiring to care for her ailing husband. Pearl was a devoted wife for 37 years.

Pearl was also the mother of the late Frank Quartarone Jr. of Saugus.

Pearl is survived by her loving and dedicated daughter Pearl “Penny” Murphy of Woburn and her other loving daughter Donna Wilkins and her husband Jack, of Salem, Ma.

Pearl leaves behind four grandchildren, Justin Wilkins and his wife Nichole of Boxford, Heidi and Jamie Wilkins, both of Salem and Jesse Wilkins of Woburn. Pearl loved and doted on her grandchildren all their lives never missing an important event or milestone. She also leaves behind 3 great-grandchildren Jace and Brielle Wilkins of Salem, Madison Wilkins of Boxford and her beloved chihuahua Ginger.

She also leaves behind two godchildren, Nancy Gray of Abington, Philip Foley of East Bridgewater, and a sister-in-law Glennie Perch of Abington, also many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Pearl was a generous person with a big heart. She loved shopping and spending her money on her family. She was very outgoing often stopping to converse with strangers and always smiling. She loved going out to eat and celebrating with her family. She was also brutally honest about things, a quality that made her unique. The family often joked about her lack of a filter at times and would tease her about it.

Due to the covid19 circumstances, there will be no wake or funeral at this time. A memorial celebration in her honor will be held at a later date.

In lieu of the customary flowers, the family asks that you perform an act of kindness towards a health care worker or make a donation to your local animal shelter/rescue in need of funds.
