Mrs. Marie (Mahoney) McGonigle passed away at the Newbridge on the Charles, Monday, February 3rd. Marie was eighty- nine years of age.

Born in Brighton, Marie was the daughter of the late Patrick T. and Catherine A. “Kitty” (Doherty) Mahoney. Marie was one of ten children and they all remained close to each other over the years.

Raised and educated in Billerica, the Pinehurst Section, Marie graduated from St. Charles High School in Woburn, along with the Class of 1949.

One evening while attending the Barn Dance in Pinehurst, she was introduced to Leo McGonigle from Woburn.

They journeyed over the next forty three years together having brought five wonderful children into the world. They moved to Woburn in1952, where she remained until 2001, where she dedicated herself to her family.

Hampton Beach or Seabrook where the summer destinations with the children and extended family members, where they all made some very long, lasting and happy memories.

Christmas! The most wonderful time of the year. Marie absolutely loved Christmas, since she was a child and took it right up to present day. Gatherings with all her siblings, children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews at the Mahoney Christmas Eve celebration it grew and grew over the years and it pleased Marie to no end to share that special season with them all.

Marie got actively involved in bowling, over the years and really had enjoyed it; so much so when she moved to Tewksbury in 2001 she would come back to Woburn to be with her friends and bowl!

Marie was a rather quiet woman, whose world was all about family. Tea in the afternoon with her sisters, dancing, Christmas gatherings, walks on the beach, visiting with grandchildren, especially on all their special days, or becoming totally immersed in a good book. All in all, Marie loved her family!

Sadly, Marie was predeceased by two children Michael P. and Timothy L. McGonigle, and their late father Leo McGonigle and her siblings Thomas , Joan and Catherine Mahoney, and Ann McAuliffe.

She is lovingly survived by her dear children Kathleen “Kathy” Boyd, her husband Scott of Canton, Thomas “Tom” McGonigle, his wife Judy of NH and Susan McGonigle, her husband Bruce Rae of CA.  Devoted sister of Patricia “Pat” Mucci of Billerica, John “Jack” Mahoney, his wife Janet of ME, Kathleen Kelley, her late husband Paul of Billerica, William “Bill” Mahoney of Cape Cod, Rita Pierce, her husband Paul of Billerica.  Dear sister-in-law of Diane Mahoney of ME.
