John C. Murphy, 97, a lifelong resident of Woburn passed away Saturday,  January 4th, at Benchmark Senior Living at Woburn.  He was the husband of 71 years to Terese (Cullen) Murphy.

Born in Charlestown, John was the elder son of Eugene and Annie(O’Brien) Murphy of Ireland.  John was a graduate of Woburn High School.

A member of the greatest generation, John’s life revolved aroung his work and family.  For twenty-five years he and his brother operated a farm in Woburn.  John loved the farm and throughout his life spoke of it with pride.  John was a man of many talents and after selling the farm he began a new career as a mechanic at Brodie Electrical Trucks in Woburn. John enjoyed success as an All Around Mechanic with  the company for over 25 years until his retirement.

A true child of the depression, John didn’t really enjoy leisure; he always wanted to be doing something productive.  He was an avid gardner and woodworker.  Every year he grew large quantities of vegetables for his family and friends.  Also a talented woodworker, he made a wide range of products for his family and others. John was always up for the project whether it was kitchen cabinets, mail boxes, signs, or even exterior mouldings for homes.  All who knew him, understood that he was happiest when he had a job to do.

John devoted his life to work and family.  He and Terese raised three beautiful daughters June, Barbara and Terrie.  John took great pride in their achievements and shared their successes with everyone.  John delighted in his grandchildren Cory, Darcy, Ryan and Collin.

Along with his wife, Terese M. (Cullen) Murphy, John is survived by his three daughters, June Morris, her husband James of Andover, Barbara Ahern, her husband Brian of Acton and Terrie Firestone, her husband Curtis of Hillsborough, CA.  Dear grandfather of John Ahern, his wife Kirstie of NM, Darcy Ahern of CT and Ryan and Collin Firestone of CA.

At the families request all services are private and under the direction of the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home 263 Main St., Woburn, MA. A memorial service will take place at a later date. Check back for details.
