Elizabeth “Betty” (McDonough) Girardi – of Woburn, December 19th, unexpectedly. Beloved wife of sixty years to Nicholas “Nick” Girardi. Devoted mother of Dr. N. Robert Girardi, his wife Mary of Woburn, James Girardi, his wife Janet of Wilmington and Susan (Girardi) Risser, her husband John of Woburn. Loving “Grammy” to the “Lucky Seven” Theresa, Nicholas, Adam, Alex, Kate Jake and Joseph. Dear sister of William McDonough, his wife Cyndy of Rockland, John McDonough, his wife Cindy of Canton and Joseph McDonough of NH and the late Anne Marshall, Mildred Moody and Mary Valenti. Also survived by her brother in law Arthur Moody of Woburn and by her loving nieces and nephews. A Funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Monday, December 23rd, at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Charles Church, 260 Main Street, Woburn at 10. Interment in Calvary Cemetery, Winchester. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to Calling hours Sunday afternoon, 2-6 p.m.

Elizabeth “Betty” (McDonough) Girardi – a lifelong resident of Woburn, died unexpectedly, Thursday, December 19th at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington. She was the beloved wife of Nicholas “Nick” Girardi, and together celebrated 60 years of marriage on November 1st.

Born and raised in the South End of Woburn, Betty was one of seven children born to the late Joseph and Ann (Joyce) McDonough, who were Irish Immigrants. Betty was educated at St. Charles School and a graduate of St. Charles High School, and remaining active in St. Charles Alumni throughout the years.

For over 40 years, Betty worked at the Woburn Municipal Credit Union where she served as CEO for a good number of years.  It is easy to say that Betty, truly was the face of the Credit Union.  Always greeting everyone with a smile as they entered, offering excellent advice and always keeping the persons best interest first and foremost.

Betty was truly a woman of great faith and family, and always put them first. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed entertaining. Shopping was a favorite pastime,  visiting the malls and outlets, gathering up gifts for her family and friends.

Betty and Nick enjoyed travelling together over the years.  Trips to Ireland, where they looked up family and spent time visiting, to Italy, Alaska and many other wonderful places throughout the world.

Along with her husband Nick, Betty is lovingly survived by her children, Dr. N. Robert Girardi, his wife Mary of Woburn, James Girardi, his wife Janet of Wilmington and Susan (Girardi) Risser, her husband John of Woburn. Loving “Grammy” to the “Lucky Seven” Theresa, Nicholas, Adam, Alex, Kate Jake and Joseph.  Dear sister of William McDonough, his wife Cyndy of Rockland, John McDonough, his wife Cindy of Canton and Joseph McDonough of NH and the late Anne Marshall, Mildred Moody and Mary Valenti.  Also survived by her brother in law Arthur Moody of Woburn and by her loving nieces and nephews.

  3. I have such fond memories of my cousin Betty and I will miss her. She always made me feel so loved as she did anyone whom she came in touch with. She and Nicky had enough love to create quite a legacy. Betty’s kind and gracious spirit will always be a part of me. Sending condolences to all 💔
