Paul J. Swan passed away at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, Tuesday, October 15th. He is the Beloved husband of Nancy (DelTorto) Swan, Paul was eighty seven years of age.

Born in Boston eighty – seven years ago, Paul was one of five children born to the late Joseph and Germaine (Plourde) Swan. Second in the line of five children, Paul was raised and educated in Somerville and was a graduate of Somerville High School along with the Class of 1950.

After high school Paul had entered the United States Air Force, where he proudly served his country during the Korean War.

After returning from the war, Paul was with friends at dance one evening, when he ran into Nancy DelTorto, whom he had met before. They began dating, later marrying in November, fifty seven years ago next month.

Having moved to the West Side of Woburn after their marriage, they brought two wonderful daughters into the world, who the sun rose and set on. Nancy and Paul were very devoted parents all throughout the years. Family trips to Canada, Disney World, Niagra Falls, up and down the eastern sea coast and having a home at the Cape provided lots of fun and entertainment over their growing up years. Seeing both their daughters graduate from college, get married and have children of their own made both he and Nancy so very proud!

Amongst all the time he spent with family, Paul had a tremendous passion for golf! He was a member of Woburn , Hillview and Meadow Brook Country Clubs and really enjoyed the game. When he retired from the Post Office, he and Nancy would head south to Florida, St., Pete’s area, and there he would continue his golf outings.

All throughout the years he also had a second job, working as a bar tender! Fantasia’s in Cambridge, The Copley and Sheraton in Boston, where he thoroughly enjoyed all the different characters he came across over the years.

Paul was truly a people person. He absolutely enjoyed meeting all sorts of different folks along his journey through life. Whether it was on his route as a Mailman, as a bartender, on the golf course or with his family travelling out and about. All throughout his lifetime he shared a wonderful gift, that of himself! Making new friends along the way, or unknowingly just cheering someone up with a few happy words, that was Paul, doing what he truly loved to do.

Paul was lovingly survived by his  dear wife Nancy (DelTorto) Swan, devoted Dad of Lisa M. McCarthy, her husband John and Barbara G. Swan-Stocker, her husband Robert all of Woburn.  He was the dear brother of Marjorie Dwyer, Richard,  Joseph, David Swan and sister in law Verna Del Torto, cherished “Grampy” of Alison Rogg, her husband Tom, Julie and Brian McCarthy, Robert and Renee Stocker. Paul is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

A Funeral will be held in the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn on Monday, October 21st, at 11 a.m.  Interment in St Michaels Cemetery, Roslindale.
