Marion A. (Nowell) Callahan passed away Wednesday September eleventh at ninety six years of age. A life long resident of Winchester she was the beloved wife of the late James J. Callahan.

Born in Winchester, the daughter of the late James L. and Jessie (MacKinnon) Nowell, she and all five of her siblings were raised and educated there. Marion was a graduate of Winchester High School, along with the Class of 1940. All throughout her educational experience Marion established in grade school a solid group of friends, which expanded over the years with spouses etc, but they have remained solid all throughout the years.

In that group was Jim Callahan, the fine young man Marion married in 1942. Shortly after they were married Jim went off to War . They made their home in the North End of Winchester, where they made their home for over sixty years.

Six children blessed their home, and needless to say she was quite the busy little mother! Her home was her castle where she kept everything always so very neat and clean. Meal time was always a great time in the Callahan household as Marion had a true gift of being creative in the kitchen. From breakfast all the way to desserts, Marion was the best.

After the children were all in school and the youngest in Jr. High, Marion went to work for the Winchester School Lunch Program. Marion rose through the ranks of the luncheon program, retiring at sixty-five years of age as the Manager.

Marion was very protective of her family, all of her family, all of the time! When she became “grandma” it was really a treat. The family grew leaps and bounds and she loved it all!

With her solid group of friends over the years, they would often head out on some fun adventures travelling near and far.

There was nothing better than when she saw a window of time, to spend it, reading a good book, all interesting genres. Through all of her reading Marion began a “Lending Library” in her home; where family and friends could borrow or even add books over the years.

Marion was a very quiet, strong and faith filled woman. She had participated in all the activities of the Immaculate Conception Parish, all throughout the years.

Marion’s life was full. Faith, family and lots of love filled her heart, her home and her life, full of family and friends.

A Funeral will be held in St. Mary’s Church, 158 Washington Street, Winchester, Monday, September 23rd at 10 a.m. followed by her burial in Calvary Cemetery, Winchester. Arrangements are under the direction of the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, MA.
