Mary Jane “Midge” (Reynolds) O’Rourke passed away at her home, with her   family at her side after a brief illness., Wednesday September fourth. The beloved wife of the late John R. “Dick” O’Rourke, Sr. she was seventy seven years of age.

Born in Somerville she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Cuttle) Reynolds. Raised in the “Rag Rock” section of the city , Midge was educated in Woburn, and attended St. Charles Elementary School and graduated from Woburn High School, with the Class of 1960.

While in high school Midge worked part time at Marion’s Dress Shop, right here in down town Woburn. When she graduated, it turned into a full time position! During the late 50’s , 60’s and early 70’s, Marion’s was the shop for well dressed woman !

Midge’s friends set her up on a blind date with Dickie O’Rourke. Well that was the beginning of a relationship that has spanned over at least sixty some odd years. They settled in North Woburn where they made their home all these years, and made life long and trusted friends.

They married and brought two great sons into the world, to who they were dedicated to.   Summer vacations consisted of lots of out door activities, camping hiking, swimming, cookouts, campfires and lots of fun. They had the very good fortune of having a summer home in Bridgton, Maine, where a lot of this fun took place and it has continued, right up to present day, with her children and their families.

Midge’s husband, Dick, was active in his family business. When he became the sole owner, Midge was right there beside him assisting with all the necessary “behind the scenes paperwork” and activity, necessary for a very successful business , which continues on to present day.

Midge also was very involved with the Judicial (Court) System down town. Volunteering frequently with the CASA program, talking with woman who were in need of a “friend”; or to help woman get the appropriate services they were in need of.

Being of humble beginnings, Midge never forgot where she came from. She shared a great and sincere appreciation of all that was good and that she had accomplished throughout her lifetime, most importantly her family and her oh so very special grandchildren, whom she was so very proud of , and brought her a tremendous amount of joy.

A faith filled, very gentle woman, Midge’s thoughtful and kind ways, were an inspiration to many . As she said to all “every day is a good day!”

Sadly, Midge was just pre deceased by Dick, nine months ago, along with her parents, Charles and Mary along with her siblings William, his wife Catherine and Leo Reynolds, his wife Mary and brother in law William Lynch..

I feel so honored to have had both of them in my lifecycle and wish the boys my heartfelt sorrow and tears. I truly believe in this native dialogue – “When you were born, you cried and others smiled and held you – so live your life so that when you’re time is to pass – others cry and you smile seeing everyone in a new life.” May God bless Midge, Dick and the boys.
