Evelyn R. (Guarini) Gangi – a lifelong resident of Woburn, died peacefully, July 3, 2019 at NewBridge on the Charles Long Term Care in Dedham, with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Anthony J. “Tony” Gangi.

Born in East Boston, Evelyn was a daughter of the late Raymond and Mary (Pilato) Guarini. She was raised in Malden and graduated from Malden High School. She continued her education at Malden Business School and received a certificate from Harvard University in business. For many years, she worked as a manager for the Crestview Plaza. She had an eye for detail and loved assisting people in bringing their dreams to life!

In 1950, Evelyn married her beloved husband, Tony, and for a brief time, they resided in Malden before returning to Woburn. Together, they started their family in the Central Square area where they raised their three daughters. Evelyn was always very involved and supportive of her daughters, who were baton twirlers, and all three rose to the national level in competing. Evelyn and Tony would rise early in the morning to drive them to the various competitions throughout the Northeast and every July to the national championships at Notre Dame University. When high school age daughter Diane started the Gangi Bay State Strutters Baton Twirling Corps in Woburn, Evelyn was there to assist with helping to make uniforms, parade flags and banner. Later, she attended all of her daughters’ college performances at football and basketball games.

In 1958, Tony opened his own Certified Public Accounting business in Woburn and Evelyn worked in the office when their daughters were at school.

For Evelyn, her immediate and extended family meant the world to her and her greatest joy came from spending time with them, especially hosting Christmas Eve open house and 4th of July cookouts with backyard games of bocce.

She will always be remembered for a smile that could brighten up any room and her warm, sweet kindness that touched all those around her. She will be deeply missed, but never forgotten! Evelyn is lovingly survived by her children, Diane Gangi George, her husband Robert of PA, Elaine Gangi Kane, her husband Roger of Weston and Tracey Gangi Johnson, her husband Jeffrey of Woburn, and by her adoring grandchildren, Michael Buonaguro, Alyssa, Alex and Olivia Kane, and Elyse, Nathaniel and Cameron Johnson. Dear sister of the late Elizabeth Ortolani, Evelyn is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

A Funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Tuesday, July 9th at 11:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn at 1:00 p.m. Donations may be made in Evelyn’s memory to the Joslin Diabetes Center, 1 Joslin Pl., Boston, MA, 02215.
