John P. Casey Sr. – May 28th, of Chelsea, and formerly of Woburn. Loving father of John P. Casey Jr. of Woburn, Kathleen P. Casey of Chelsea, Maureen N. Krol of Methuen, and Doreen M. and her husband Rick Alongi of Littleton. Also survived by his beloved first wife, Dorothy (Doyle) Casey of Woburn. Devoted brother of Thomas and his wife Nancy Casey of Brighton, William and his wife Barbara Casey of Florida. Cherished “Papa” of Matthew and Hannah Alongi, Leszek Krol, Jordan Rivers, Jacqueline, Jenna, and Jillian Casey. As well as, his dear nieces and nephews, his good friend and caretaker, Frank Adjei, the crew from M.S. Walker and his long-term Brighton friends. John was preceded in death by his siblings: Michael Casey, Andrew “Gumpy” Casey, Mary Moreland and Catherine “Dolly” Casey.  Friends and relatives are respectfully invited to visiting hours from 2 – 6 pm on Saturday, June 15th at Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home 263 Main St. Woburn, MA. At John’s request, his body has been been donated to Harvard Medical School. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s memory to: The James L. John P. Casey, Sr., 86, of Chelsea, passed away on May 28, 2019 at Mass. General Hospital in Boston of heart complications.

John was born in Boston to the late Andrew and Nora (Whyte) Casey on July 8, 1932. He attended St. Columbkille’s in Brighton and graduated from Burdett School of Business in Boston. John was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the Korean War. John married Dorothy Doyle on September 10, 1960 in Woburn, where they settled and raised their family. John worked his entire professional career at M.S. Walker, a local liquor manufacturer and distributor, from where he retired after more than 50 years having made lifelong friendships.

John enjoyed Sunday afternoon rides to Gloucester for homemade ice cream, deep-sea fishing in Hampton,NH and numerous vacations to Cape Cod and other places such as St. Lucia, St. Martin, Jamaica, Venezuela and the Mexican seacoast. John regularly invited not only immediate family, but also extended family and friends, to his favorite destinations making bonds and memories remembered by all. Later in life, John greatly enjoyed his many travels over the years to Costa Rica where he spent a considerable amount of time during his retirement making some wonderful friends. No matter the place or occasion everyone loved spending time with John!

John was very attentive to his physical health, an avid runner and involved for many years with the Boston YMCA. He proudly ran and finished as a “bandit” in the 1978 Boston Marathon. His daughter Doreen followed in his footsteps 25 years later and ran the Boston Marathon to celebrate his achievement. John proudly greeted her at the finish line with a cigar and a hug.

John is preceded in death by his siblings: Michael Casey, Andrew “Gumpy” Casey, Mary Moreland and Catherine “Dolly” Casey.

He is survived as the loving father of John P. Casey Jr. of Woburn, Kathleen P. Casey of Chelsea, Maureen N. Krol of Methuen, and Doreen M. Alongi, her husband Rick of Littleton, and beloved first wife, Dorothy. Devoted brother of Thomas Casey, his wife Nancy of Brighton, William “Willy” Casey, his wife Barbara of Florida. Cherished “Papa” of Matthew and Hannah Alongi, Leszek Krol, Jordan Rivers, Jacqueline, Jenna, and Jillian Casey. A favorite uncle to his nieces and nephews. As well as his dear friend and caretaker, Frank Adjei.

Calling hours to be held from 2 – 6 pm on Saturday, June 15th at Lynch Cantillon Funeral Home 263 Main St. Woburn, MA. At John’s request, his body was donated to Harvard Medical School.
